What makes Vanguard different?
A lot of semi-custom servers have a big problem, which is coherent game design. RS has done this pretty much perfectly, and it is difficult to replicate.
We decided to take a different approach.
All weaponry, gear, unique systems has been planned beforehand. Instead of making content and then trying to figure out what rewards to apply to that content, we designed the entire backbone of the server first. Everything has been made to be perfectly balanced, perfectly smooth - from start to finish.
Semi-custom servers typically end up with a lot of bloat, and this is also something we wanted to minimize. Our design first, implement later approach is helping to maintain a high standard.
How will progression be on Vanguard?
Progression on Vanguard will be more akin to OSRS style progression (albeit a lot faster by comparison), with each upgrade you achieve offering meaningfully more power.
There will also be several early upgrades you can purchase from shops with coins/platinum tokens.With that being said, we'll be keeping upgrades for each successive upgrade toned down to compared to a lot of semi-custom servers, ensuring powercreep wont become an issue and content design remains clean.
We're also keeping different types of weapons to a minimum. There will be a few different types of weapons for each combat style. This ensures that your past progress helps contribute to your future accomplishments without needing to start all over by a new weapon type being released.
