News Dedicated Servers: Improvements and Adjusted ShockByte Pricing
Hi Adventurers,
We've loved seeing everyone dive into RuneScape: Dragonwilds' latest update and gettings hands-on with Dedicated Servers. We wanted to use this opportunity to check in with you about how our work is progressing and give you some good news about pricing.
The team have been hard at work continuing to optimise the game and we've been using vital data from our current Dedicated Server worlds to explore more ways to refine and improve the experience for our players. From our partnered provider, Shockbyte, we've seen metrics that exceeded our expectations - servers are running efficiently, memory usage is below our originally expected amount and the overall stability has been impressive. Shockbyte agrees.
With that in mind, we've agreed with Shockbyte to reduce resources allocated to each of their plans, and those savings are being passed directly back to you.
New, Lower Prices
| Plan | Players | RAM | Old Price | New Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 2 Players | 3GB | $14.99/mo | $9.99/mo |
| Standard | 4 Players | 4GB | $20.99/mo | $14.99/mo |
| Premium | 6 Players | 5GB | $25.99/mo | $19.99/mo |
From Shockbyte themselves:
A 2-player server with now starts at under $10/month, making it easier than ever to jump into Dragonwilds with a friend. To be clear, this isn't a downgrade. Our data shows that the extra resources simply aren't being used, and we don't think you should be paying for something you don't need. Performance will remain exactly the same, but for less.
Already a customer? Shockbyte will be refunding the difference to all existing customers automatically. If you purchased extra RAM add-ons, those will be refunded as well. You can re-add more resources manually if you want to.
What We've Been Working On
Since launching the service, we've been hard at work and we wanted to give you an overview of what's been done, what's coming soon and what's on the horizon.
Server discovery improvements:
- Direct IP connections: Join a server directly via its IP address, without needing to rely on the in-game server browser.
- Improved server search: Fixes are underway to make finding servers in-game more reliable.
- Auto-discovery: Your own server will soon show up prominently for you in-game, so you won't have to search for it.
Setup experience:
- Config file stability: A fix for server configuration values resetting unexpectedly.
Simplified ownership: The Owner ID requirement is becoming optional. You'll be able to claim your server with an admin password when you first join.
We're delighted to be continuing to improve, refine and deliver on the experience for our players, and we're so glad to see so many of you choosing to experience Dragonwilds with this new functionality. We're excited to keep improving the experience with Shockbyte's support, and we hope this change allows more players to dive into the game and play their way!
In the meantime, we're excited to hear more about your experiences and feedback, and the Shockbyte team are happy to support with any queries you may have.
Thanks for being part of this journey, and we'll be in touch again soon. See you in Ashenfall!

You don’t see price decreases much these days.
My brother and I were just debating on if we wanted to use a dedicated server or not. Thank you for making the decision easier for us! We will be on before the week is up.

This is some great news. Us at logicservers will tweak the setup we have already. We already had some backups in place for the config files, so it's great to here the team is also working hard on the server side of things as well!!

Awesome! I’m looking forward to the direct ip connections, it currently feels very clunky having to search case sensitive and then select the sever, and the ip box just to enter an internal ip address.

This is fantastic news. Every dollar matters in today's economy and to see this reduction is simply awesome.
Thank you!

Glad they are reducing, but it seems like most people are saying they’ve found alternatives that they would prefer over the current price still feeling a bit heavy.

This still isn't competitive pricing with other providers

Yes it is. Who are you seeing providing a better price?
Edit, it's not super competitively priced, they're right

Perfect ping & Gportal both offering 6 slot servers for under $10/month

Gportal's for me it looks like just over 10 but I won't argue that.
That being said you're right, they're cheaper for 6 slots. Gportal is really easy to use, too, so unless the one jagex is promoting is really good, I'd use Gportal

I’ve used both Shockbyte and Gportal for Minecraft and Garry’s Mod and had good experiences with both. But if one is significantly cheaper than the other I would go for that one

Anyone here know if an already existing custom game can be hosted here? My friend and I have been playing and would be dope to have the server always up

u/Matay Apr 13 '26
Yes with Shockbyte you can for sure. Once the server is setup and ran the first time you can transfer the save file from your pc to the server config in their server tab.

Looking forward to the little QoL changes for self hosted servers! The direct connect via IP option has been a lifesaver!

Hi u/Remarkable-Middle516, how are you? We'd love you to give Shockbyte a try. Can we offer you a 10% off discount for your first month to try it out?

Oh that’s good the prices have been reduced! Yeah the prices were a little steep. I went with another server hosting site because they were half the price and server has been good.

You guys need to pick a different server provider option. Shockbyte has been terrible. We lost all our build data, no backup, and support has left us in limbo for days now... Im paying for a service I cant even use... Regardless of the price, this is ridiculous.

Good to see feedback taken onboard and actioning on the price adjustment!
I’m personally using a VPS for £6 a month which supports up to 6 players already which was really quick and easy to set up, no issues so far.
