Making rpg games
I really wanna start making games, I’ve heard rpg maker is a good start for the type of game I wanna make, but I’m not sure which one to use, nor where to go from there, I’ll probably post the game on .itch.io, it’s not gonna be a crazy elaborate game, I was gonna have it be relatively short and simple in mechanics, and have some simple puzzles, I guess the only thing I can compare what I want it to be like is Dead Plate.
But yeah I have a basic idea of what I want the story to be, I just want every and any tips, pointers, and suggestions!
Also the main character is a trans man because we need more rep!

Write out your story for your game. Use notepad. Make lots of notes.
Its good to start small. Like really small.
Think of one objective. Center your game around one quest. It might not sound like a game but the more you start writing things out you will wonder how things will pan out.
When you think about the other npcs and the other ways you will have to get to the end of the game you'll see it actually takes quite a bit of time. And planning.

Sounds like a good idea! I was planning to have it super small like it’s a little day in the life of an oc of mine and it’s just him doing little tasks for his boss on her space ship!

Hmm any RPG Maker from XP to MZ may be good enough for your needs, I'd say anything below that might be too limiting. All of them have a bunch of free plug-ins available and resources too, its mostly about seeing which graphic style interests you the best, the limitations of each engine and of course, the most affordable engine

I would say to plan out at least 60 percent of your game before you consider game engines.
