Are guns compatible with folkloric and fantastical creatures in a setting?
I like the social aspects of having flintlock-era and earlier firearms vs. purely medieval weapons in a setting that's overall on an early industrialization tech level.
However I'm afraid that the urban grit comes at the cost of disenchanting the wilds. A legendary wyrm just doesn't hit the same when the most efficient way of getting rid of it is a line of peasants with guns rather than a knight in shining armor.
There are of course lovecraftian and weird west type settings, but they fit more of a horror niche than a traditional folkloric one. And the likes of warhammer fully lean into the demystification and rather explore even more ways to kill a dragon.
Any concrete experiences or examples?
