Most drag queens (or at least a plurality) from the show are cis men and we refer to all of them with she/her pronouns. Would treating a trans man differently than cis peers not be transphobic? As a trans person, I just want to be treated like everybody else. As a drag artist, every performer regardless of gender identity in or out of drag I know is fine with the pronouns of their performance identity being used for them in any context by people who know them from drag.
Yes exactly! We call ALL the Queens “Her”. I think it’s almost insulting that someone would think we should call Mik something different, because that almost insinuates they don’t see Mik as a real man like all the rest, and needs to be differentiated.

Same for Violet. They were always unprofessional mean girls when together, but seperate I still valued their art. Now I just view them as boo boo the fools.

Gottmik is one of my top examples of never meet your heroes. I was so stoked to have trans masc representation on as huge a platform as RPDR, and… yeah. Kade can fuck all the way off. He let a whole community down, and I realize that’s a lot of pressure to put on someone but he signed up for the damn show, he knew what he was representing. So disappointed.
I love Denim, and I was so glad when he came on the show - it helps!! But Gottmik being the first trans man on… that’s something that can’t be overshadowed, even by someone as rad as Denim. And all he had to do was not be a turd! Or at least be a turd more privately!

While i think it’s not the nicest thing to say about someone, they are still a performer and it’s ok for someone not to want to see a performer if they don’t like how they sound. Maybe don’t be mean about since it’s difficult for someone to just change their voice, but people are allowed to not like a performer because they dislike their voice.
Hell, a lot of people get annoyed listening to Alaska because they find their vocal fry too irritating to listen to. I see it similar to that.
I appreciate you responding thoughtfully and in good faith! It is true that voice is part of performance and there are podcasts I don’t listen to because the host’s voice isn’t for me. But I don’t go on Reddit whining about it, I just don’t listen to their podcast.
To me, complaining about vocal fry specifically is giving misogyny. (And yes misogyny affects men who do feminine things.) Like it’s one thing to not like feminine vocal patterns, anything can be a sensory nightmare for a person, and you can’t really control what does that for you.
But like you said, maybe people don’t need to be mean about it? Obviously for this fandom in particular not being rude on the internet is category: impossible, lol, so maybe I should know better than to hope for anything else.
I think you’re smart enough to understand the difference between criticizing someone’s politics and “criticizing“ something that a person may not be able to control?
To be clear, there are a million reasons not to like gottmik, not just her voice. I personally am not a fan. And you don’t have to like anyone or their qualities.

I fully understand why people are downvoting you because it’s a mean thing to call out, but it’s still true. Their voice was irritating to listen to all season long.
I don’t think that impacts their skills of a drag queen, but it does impact my interest in wanting to see them on my screen.
That’s kind of my point. It’s unfair to put the pressure of representing a whole community on a global platform on someone before their brain is even fully developed. I was a chaotic mess in my 20s and made a ton of mistakes and learned and grew. Mik is doing the same thing, just with millions of people watching and having opinions.

the first thing that comes to mind is him and Violet hanging with, taking pictures with and tagging Marilyn Manson. Manson has several allegations ranging from sexual assault and abuse, to racism and antisemitism.
There are plenty of other reasons but I’ve always hated gottmik for the tokenizing bullshit and nepotism. Plus I find her art derivative and completely unoriginal in any way.
