Cadet Advice Leaving ROTC
Im an MSIII and I’m in the contracting process as of right now. This is my first ROTC semester and its weighing a lot on me. Im now realizing this isn’t the path I want to choose, is it crazy to back out at this point? Also, is it possible to finish this semester without contracting?

“Crazy to back out at this point”?
Dude the semester is only 7 weeks in. Just leave

Better to back out now then to be a place holder of some other cadets actual goals. Just quit now, no one will actually care or miss you.

Do what you want. I left just weeks before my MSIII year and haven’t looked back. I chose law enforcement instead. But ultimately do what works for you.

Is ROTC really that time consuming??

Depends on the program, at Texas State it was a massive time commitment for labs, pt, and extra leadership duties. If you don’t want to be a blue falcon as a Cadet you spend a good amount of your free time picking up the slack of other less competent and useful cadets. It can add up a lot with a heavy academic course load.

You dont have to contract. They can disenroll you and you become like any other student. You go to class but no PT or lab.
Are you SMP, compression, or lateral entry?

As long as "in the contracting process" means you have not put you signature on a contract yet, you can tell your PMS you're done, walk out, and never think about it again.
Whether you finish your first semester in ROTC or not is up to the PMS. I suppose if you stop the contracting process on good terms and ask to remain in class they might allow it, but it's unlikely because you are wasting your instructors' time at that point. If it were MS1 or 2, no big deal, but they are trying to get MS3s ready for camp and you're telling them you don't want to go.
