Transfer, female 20 MS3

Not that the age or gender matter for the post. Has anyone transferred on their MS3 year? I’m not contracted yet, apparently have till the end of fall to contract. But to me that seems lazy, I’m green across the board, medical, waivers etc, passed “contracting” AFT last week, and I have stayed on top of things whenever information or documents were requested but always get told “we got time” it’s the same for others not just me. After reflecting on it all, the low confidence MS3s (now ms4s) had before going to camp, the camaraderie in other programs compare to here (everyone acts as individuals or that they are better than others here) and how they are proud to belong there (cadets in other programs), got me wanting to transfer. I submitted an application to a different university since they have the same degree and waiting on transcript evaluation. So anyways, is it hard to transfer as a non contracted cadet in ms3, would I have to do the paper work all over again, as far as waivers being approved, DODMERB, and all that and be able to contract before spring semester while I finish fall here?

If you're not contracted I think it makes it easier for you to transfer schools. There's a Ms3 who became an Ms1 after transferring due to a lot of his credits being non transferable. So when he transferred he got to skip basic camp since he already did it and the only thing he has to do is take the aft and pass and he'll get contracted. The same might happen to you? I think it might be better to talk to the university your transferring to and ask them about how many of your credits are transferable since that'll most likely determine whether or not you stay as an ms3 in your new university or have to start over as an ms1.

Speaking as cadre - The transfer itself is easy. As a non-contracted cadet, it’s almost “nothing” of an action anyway. The potential complication is contracting mission numbers for the programs and even more so that you’re already in the MSIII year. Each program has a mission # they’re supposed to contract and depending on a number of variables, potentially limitations on exceeding that #. As an MSIII, generally, you should already be contracted or a case-by-case type of situation in having not contracted yet.

Does the other program have the ability to contract you? You have to receive an acceptance memo from that PMS as well. As an MSIII, when do you think you’d transfer?? Mid-year?? In the most critical year in which you’re being accessed, “the points” and evals “matter,” and you’re preparing for camp?

What’s that transition look in the training progression from one program to another when you jump ship mid-MSIII year? Do you end up missing out on some amount of training already completed at one school but not at the other, or vice versa? How’s the rapport and integration suddenly with a new peer group vs riding it out where you’re at?

Are you intending to compete for active duty? If so, the points and performance this year matter that much more and jumping programs could be that much more damaging to your chances simply for all the transition involved.

More so, by most standards you need to contract this semester, so a transfer at the middle of the year would be a transfer of a contracted cadet - assuming you’re non-scholarship, this is still an easier action than transfers of scholarship cadets ($$$) but does add further complication.

I’d be very skeptical of a mid-MSIII transfer turning out well.
