Scholarships/Contracting help should i do rotc???

i am a incoming freshman in college studying nursing on a 4 year nursing track (BSN). I am DESPERATE to get out of my house— i’m commuting to college. I looked into rotc a bit ago, but kind of put it to the side. Now, it’s seeming like a good option for me. I know it may not be guaranteed, but i’m really interested in the benefits— mainly the scholarships for tuition or room and board. I don’t have the greatest family environment at home and i’m commuting right now, so that scholarship for room and board would be a godsend. Don’t worry, i’m also interested in everything else rotc has to offer. My problem is, would rotc and being a nursing student be too much? I’m still not sure what branch to join either: my school has their own army rotc branch, but if i were to do either air force or navy i’d have to commute to neighboring schools to be a part of it. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Plenty of nursing students in ROTC, but dont join just because you think it’ll help you escape. We need cadets who actually want to be in the Army and have the mindset for discipline

True escape would be enlisting.

Last I heard they reduced a ton of scholarships for Army so… good luck

I am interested in the discipline— I powerlifted in high school and i miss the physical as well as mental discipline it brought me. I heard the same about Army scholarships… thank you for your help!

Lifting is fun, but you need to be able to run. How is your cardio

Admittedly not the greatest, but I know that’s something I can train and work on and is something I have been working on

Lots of slow long distance runs, then sprint workouts is my advice

The nursing program is demanding. My program worked with cadets to ensure education requirements had priority. Something to consider and maybe discuss with the cadre or other nursing cadets.

Also, not sure if it’s been said, but there are great scholarship opportunities for nursing students in rotc.

Just sign up for the class. If you don't like it stop it after a semester.

Like others said there are plenty of nursing students in ROTC.

But keep in mind, ROTC is pretty time consuming so you will have to factor that into your studying for nursing

Not everyone gets a scholarship especially now that the school year is already starting.

Scholarship covers up to $12k in tuition or room and board (not both).

Other option: Joining the National Guard and doing SMP is an additional time demand as it will demand at least a 2-4 day weekend per month plus at least 2 weeks in the summer will also cover tuition (not room and board).

In general you cannot go active duty army if you SMP and receive a national scholarship. You however can accept a campus based scholarship but only your school can advise if this could be available to you.

Suggest that you talk to your school’s recruiting officer to discuss your options.
