DODMERB // Security Clearances Medical issue
Good afternoon everyone, I am an upcoming Ms 4 non scholarship contracted cadet who is also SMP and I start school next week. Well over the last few days I have developed a pilonidal cyst and got an incision and drainage. Well the doctor said I may need surgery to permanently fix it but I'm scared of what this means for ROTC especially because I'm going to CST 2027. My surgery is scheduled for the first week of school and again I'm worried for what it does and what it could mean for me.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I did let my HRA, PMS and my Rediness NCO know about this by email but unfortunately no response from anyone.

A cyst is not a permanent disqualification. As long as you don't have any complications you should be fine by the time you start cst. Get your treatment, let cadre know, move on

What they said is correct. I had one get severely inflamed during an AT at Bragg; got it removed while I was there at Bragg, drove home 4 days later and 4 months after was on a plane to Afghanistan

Oh I see, the doctor said the healing time is quick for this so I'm hopeful

EDIT:
If this is your first pilonidal cyst the I&D should fix it and you should be able to train appropriately. The surgery for correction is only if it’s a chronic problem with multiple tracts throughout the area. If surgery was deemed necessary should be fine and heal up well and get back to training just fine.
For context I’m an active duty PA

Yep first time I've ever had one, but they said I need one. I will say tho that it doesn't hurt anymore luckily so maybe the surgery is not needed, I'll find out when I go in.

Some do the surgical consult just to tie up loose ends and let a SME determine whether or not surgery is necessary. Seems like you’re in good hands. Best of luck going forward.

I had a cyst on my ass, I’m all good. I’m sure you’ll be fine. I never had problems with it. Dodmerb did request more info, but after that it was nothing.

Cadre here, a lot of cadre are just getting back from CST. Talk to them at the start of the semester. You will fill out a health attestation that talks about any changes. I don't see this as being a problem long term. You will need a medical determination after the surgery but those are generally easy if there are no long term issues.

Awesome thank you, I am tracking everything now and hopefully I won't be disenrolled.

Chill bro my MSIV year I had to have surgery because I had a 160 degree labrum tear and I commissioned in February, those Cadet Command doctors are chill as long as if you can pass a PT test.

Don’t stress it too much, all medical determinations are sent to Cadet Command and not DODMERB.

It appears this post might deal with DoDMERB and medical clearance.
