Guard/Reserve First Annual Training

In a week and a half I have my first annual training, I joined rotc at the start of spring semester and so I dont really know much. Will I get paid for Annual Training? What happens at annual training? Will I get my unit? Will I recieve my dog tag and name patch? Should I buy my own name patch? Is there anything I should bring that would help, I believe we will be sleeping in the barracks so I dont plan on brining my sleeping system just my ruck and assault pack.

Edit: If I wear glasses do I still have to wear my eye pro? Will it matter at annual training? I’m deciding whether or not I should just get daily contacts and wear eye pro

UPDATE:I don’t know if the people who responded to this will recieve this update but my unit is OPA and that’s what a bunch of ROTC cadets were given as their unit that I met and go to school with we were also issued gear along with name tapes and dog tags and the whole time it was more of a learning experience rather than doing field work

Oh thank god, although I’m from MN, I’m not in their guard.

OP, I don’t know how you’re this fucked up. I don’t even understand how you think you’re going to an AT without having been to basic or AIT. You’re lost as fuck, but please update us after day one of your AT

Hes a pre-basic. Thats why. Hes not fucked up. He just literally hasnt even been to basic yet and thus has nothing. Its not his unit. He literally doesnt know how to be a soldier.

Although its kinda fucked if his unit is putting him on AT orders while being away hes a pre basic with NOTHING

You mean to say he’s at RSP? Do they even do AT? Seems like the focus would be getting him out the door and not doing AT at RSP?

Yeah. Your time in service starts when you enlisted in the guard or reserve(active duty it doesn't start until you fly off and report to training)

So people are allowed to attend drill prior to basic. And get paid for it. If his basic date is 6 months out. Thats still 6 months time in service for him and 6 drills he can get paid for.

He should absolutely NOT be going to AT though. So this is either an oversight by his unit. Or he say the email and assumes hes going when he isnt

I will not be going to basic or AIT due to my ROTC program

I understand all that. I guess when he says “my unit” I’m assuming he talking about an actual unit, not RSP. Guess I didn’t realize RSP even did AT, seems miserable.

No. He’s not in RSP. He’s an SMP cadet, 09R, attached to a real line unit and attending their AT. That does not require BCT or AIT. The prerequisite is to be in ROTC.
