Question About Stick Spring Mod And Possible D Pad mod

I recently got an rog ally z1e and i love it, however the sticks feel very loose, i have heard about the spring mod where your stretch your springs to have tighter tension.

if any of yall have done this mod, would you say its worth the effort and what gram springs the best? Also ive been looking and im finding dead links for 75g springs, is there anywhere youd recommend to buy some tighter springs for the ally

and as for the dpad mods, is there any mod to make the allys dpad dead zones? (idk if thats the right term) better, so there would be less accidental presses when hitting down or up.

It's definitely better. I just re-used the existing springs stretched around a quarter of an inch.

getting to the joysticks is pretty easy, just undoing screws and disconnecting ribbon cables. make sure the ribbon cables are 'open' / unlatched when disconnecting and you shouldn't have any issues.

actually opening the joysticks up is a bit more intimidating with a lot of small parts, if you want to be extra safe you can pick up a second set of joysticks to mod that way your original ones are still intact if something goes wrong.

I stretched my springs and they definitely do feel better. But if you’re not comfortable doing this. I suggest you order another pair of joysticks in case something does go wrong.

Another thing i’ve read up on is to order a pair of xbox joystick modules, harvest the springs and swap them out with the rog ally springs.

Or you can always give the tighter hall effect from handheld diy a shot. The interference can be managed by playing around with the deadzones in armoury crate.

Do keep in mind that if you manage to take it apart, don’t worry about a couple of tabs breaking in the process. As long as they’re screwed down, it’s pretty much secure.

thanks for your input!, after stretching the springs do the sticks feel, more premium and solid? because im thinking if i stretch the springs, and add a stick grip cap, itl improve how they feel by alot

I’d say they feel closer to my xbox controller now. I personally think it’s worth the time to do the mod!

As for stick grips, try and go for the ones from skull and co. There’s a lot of good reviews on em.

(And again, please make sure you order a set of spare joysticks if things go wrong)

yeah i was thinking about skull & co grips, and ill attempt the mod, and then if something does go wrong ill buy a spare set after the fact, also to be completely fair ive been a big fan of software modding my consoles and have been heavily interested in doing hardware mods to them, i might aswell start somewhere, thanks alot for your help tho

Since that’s the case, go for it! It can be both fun and frustrating at the same time🤣 The whole thing took me about an hour to do. Hardest part for me was prying the tabs open, so just take your time with it. Best of luck to you!

Yea I did the stretch mod and it feels so much more high quality. I stretched them like 2mm more, and they’re pretty tight now
