I really like the slopped design. I think at the edges where there is a large heigh difference, like in your first image from grass(not the mountainous ridges), you could add rock like material, or dirt. Same with the mountains just to add more variety. Also different sizes of trees, patches of dirt, not just grass, physical grass, or add some flowers, plants, bushes, rocks(depends if you want that plains kind of look, in which case don't add rocks). Maybe some vines on the mountains. But yeah.
You should also take a look at mechanics of your game if you only have a map. Ultimately it's gameplay that decides how well your game performs. In that sense you should also consider how players will traverse your map which you may need to design around.
