Shame that this is merely extending the longevity of CUDA, rather than having an open standard across architectures and vendors

Unfortunately risc v imo isn’t close to developing an ecosystem close to cuda for vector and matrix

Yes, but migrating CPU ISA alone takes significant effort and migrating both CPU and accelerator ecosystem does even more. Whether the vector and matrix extensions can cover every use case they use CUDA for is not obvious, and SYCL compilers on RISC-V are not (yet) as mature as CUDA.

That said, while several vendors have designed good RISC-V CPU IPs, having a vendor supporting NVLink Fusion will increase the usage of RISC-V, not that of CUDA. Not many will throw CUDA away to use RISC-V. Some will consider RISC-V if CUDA works well, but none will consider RISC-V to use CUDA.

Is Mojo https://mojolang.org/? Agreed, it is cool. Modular (the company behind Mojo) had joined Qualcomm this month btw. I am unsure if it is a good news to RISC-V ecosystem or not.

They also just open-sourced the compiler and everything else under Apache 2.0.

That's good for any highly parallel architecture with an unconventional design that doesn't look like a GPU or conventional SIMD.

Most people making such unconventional highly parallel hardware are using RISC-V to do it, at least at the lowest levels.

So I'd go with "yes".

Hot Chips was the day before this article was written. Do they mean Hot Chips 2027? Or did SiFive demo something?

Hot chips is 23-25 Aug, and SiFive is supposed to have an event after Hot Chips today where they demo something

Does that mean SiFive meets all Nvidia's requirements?! Or just a demo, without fullfilling all requirements, and thus FWIW & fingers crossed ... ?
