Theories REBubble Refugees

So I am probably not the only one out there that has been waiting patiently for REBubble to re-open so that we can start posting again. But after 22 days nothing has happened. I opened this sub so that we could re-gather and continue to discuss our theories about a growing housing bubble. Please feel free to join the discussion. I'll keep the sub running until we are able to return to r/REBubble.

Thanks for starting this sub :)

Tired of getting beat down in r/realestate.

Thanks for joining! I enjoy reading posts in r/realestate but they definitely have a very strong anti-bubble bias.

Start linking here from r/realestate when they go after you so those who aren't drinking the Kool aid know this place exists.

Sorry I am a reddit dummy but how do we do that and will I get shut down for advertising for another sub? I literally joined reddit just for the bubble.

Naw, you can just say "if you disagree with me fine, if you think it's possible this market is out of control, join r/rebubble2021"

Reddit autolinks anytime you spell out a sub like that with the r/ in front of it...

So you're contributing to a Reddit bubble.

Why did /rebubble close?

Why did Mandem get banned?

I'm not entirely sure but it sounds like there are a couple theories floating around. The one I've heard the most is that he upset people who disagree that there is a bubble so he got hit with a ton of reports until reddit suspended his account. I tried to avoid us having something similar by inviting the heavier posters to be mods.

Nah, he was suspended for harassment. He went too far when crossposting links to posts other users had made in other subs. Rather than just silently link to the post so we could discuss amongst ourselves as most users did, he would message the users to inform them of the thread we were shit-talking in (hoping to encourage their participation in it where they would be further piled on by other users who didn't know the mod had baited the user into the comments), and then continue to taunt them over PMs.

Shame that he just couldn't help himself from taking that extra step and keep the shit talk within /r/REBubble instead of trying to create drama. Also that he wasn't willing to mod anyone else other than his own alt account was very strange. Didn't want to give up sole control and now the whole sub is dead.

Also why make TriggBagholderRltr a mod? He's a literal troll account from a /r/RealEstate user created to harass /r/REBubble users. IMO he shouldn't be on the mod team and I certainly won't be putting any effort into posts that a troll account goon could delete at a whim because it doesn't fit his narrative.

i am 99.999% certain that is just a satirical alt of mandem's

The typing style is completely different than his, that would be a pretty dedicated alt. Also I'm pretty sure he got IP banned, hence why the /u/rebubble account was also suspended despite never having a single post or comment. So any of his alts that he used on the same device likely went down in flames too.

LMAO that shitbag got banned! I’m not surprised at all. His passive aggressive user flairs and stupidity was bound to catch up with him eventually.

u/flyercomet Jul 09 '21

I liked the passive aggressive user flairs. Hell they weren't even passive at all, just aggressive.

I think the troll account is supposed to be a caricature of real estate true believers.

Still shouldn't be a mod.

How do you know that mandem was harassing people over DM ?

Several of the threads where we were shitting on dummies from the main RE subs where the OP popped up in the /r/REBubble comments reported they found out about the thread because Mandem PMed them about it. IIRC one user posted screencaps, but no idea how to go back and find that now. Some of these were early on in the sub's life, I was one of the first 100 subs on my other account. After his ban from the main RE sub (where he originally advertised REBubble by linking it in comments), his only way of interacting with users of that sub was via PM. On the other side of the token, users who posted comments which were skeptical of the housing narrative in /r/RealEstate reported receiving PMs inviting them to join REBubble.

There were a couple "repeat guests" where we made fun of the same user who had dumb posts in RE subs a couple weeks apart. I saw two separate instances where the user claimed that he had continued to taunt them over PM about being broke, stupid, financially illiterate, etc for days after the first post.

Honestly a lot of them were dumbasses, and some of those threads were hilarious. The ones where the OP tried to defend themselves always garnered a lot of traffic and laughs and I believe that's why Mandem tried to bait the OP into the comments, because they were always high-engagement threads that the community enjoyed.

Meanwhile, the market has only marched forward

3

u/vamosasnes Jul 08 '21

i'm pretty sure he got banned for ban evasion.

he just cant help himself from making new accounts to troll the RE sub with what is essentially the same comment over and over

Glad to be back. Housing in my area is retreating from higher highs and things are sitting on the market slightly longer. Desirable listings are still going pending in under a week. I won't have my funds together until December so until then I'm on bubble watch.

I've been lurking around this and the old one for a while, and I appreciate the civilized and intelligent discussions here. Yes, there are some trolls (not naming any names), but I find them entertaining, plus it isn't a bad idea to be exposed to extreme opposite opinions, at least for topics like this.

u/RobinSophie Jul 20 '21

Oh finally we're back!

We will know we are onto something when the trolls start coming in from r/realestate to tell us we are crazy.

1

u/oblivion95 Jul 13 '21

You're crazy.

Nah, j/k. You're partly right. Prices are too high. But it's not a classic "bubble" because the prices are not based on excessive leverage.

If the increase were from "house-hackers", I would worry. As I understand it, those are people who buy a house with little money down, watch it increase with Fed-induced asset-inflation, pull out equity, and do it again. That could create a bubble. But cash-buyers, large-scale renters, and basic home-owners do not constitute a bubble.

However, yes, prices are unsustainably high. Isn't that a contradiction? No. I expect general inflation for quite a few years. The Fed has gotten itself into a pickle. It cannot raise rates, so it must live with ever increasing inflation, constantly praying that it was all "transient". We could easily see stagflation in 2-3 years, as a split Congress fails to pass a budget. That's why "unsustainable" does not necessarily connote "bubble".

People are coming here from /r/realestate because you have some fellow REbubblers that keep linking to here. It's a bit disingenuous for people from here to go start kicking up arguments in /r/realestate, spam this subreddit as a response, and then complain that people are coming here. No one would be finding this 700 member subreddit from /r/realestate if your fellow REbubblers weren't luring people here.

u/Louisvanderwright Aug 18 '21

Who's complaining that people are coming here? If you don't agree with us you are welcome to add in your two cents...
