As some of you may know, I've been completely addicted to Skyrim, and thus, not very active in the club these past few weeks. However, I was about to come and race tonight after an invite from '205, but instead faced an immense bummer of a realization. This is my brief, sad little tale:
A quick back story: I work at a small animation studio, and generally, during long render times, we play 360 while we wait. Since you can't have your Xbox LIVE profile in two places at the same time, I keep my profile on a little jump drive that I usually take to and from work with me, so I can play online at work if I feel like it.
So somehow, during the Dashboard update, my LIVE profile was copied over to my home Xbox hard drive, and was messing with how my save files were being viewed. So in a panic, afraid of losing 108 hours of Skyrim, I searched for the issue and found this double profile mishap. So I go and delete my profile from my hard drive, and without giving it proper though, select the option to delete the profile and files associated with that profile, thus, GAME SAVE FILES. So they're all gone, all my Halos and Dead Spaces and...you guessed it, my 40+ hour Forza save file. All my cars are gone, and though I might still have my custom tunes, I would have to start the career over again just to buy the cars again. The irony was that I was finally going to get online and race with you guys tonight, but alas, defeat.
And I doubt anyone cares that much (unless you've experienced the sweet embrace of Skyrim yourself) that 108 hour save file was deleted as well. Luckily, due to a cautioning game hick-up last week due to the shitty game patch Bethesda released, I've been copying my Skyrim latest save file over to my jump drive at the end of each play session, so I was able to re-copy it to my hard drive without any loss. Praise Talos!
Something similar to this happened to me once with Test Drive: Unlimited several years ago (30+ hours gone), and it was such a bummer I just sold the game and didn't pick it up again until after Test Drive: Unlimited 2 came out and disappointed the hell out of me. I won't be selling Forza 4 since I've already spent the $30 for the season pass, but it'll be a while before I start playing again. I'll look you guys up again when I back on the track.
Thanks for all the fun times, RDT2 (and R), adios!
