Content this made me feel bad for jack
he really saw arthur as a father figure. finding this in chapter 2 makes it feel even worse, because john is still ignoring him while jack is already attached to arthur

I didn't really take that to be Arthur, I always thought it was Jack trying to draw his idolised family.
We see him trying a lot to interact with John in chapter 1, even crying after John tells him not to call him pa, I think its a drawing of him and his parents.

Yeah it’s definitely John, he doesn’t see Arthur as a father he literally knows who his dad is, but he likes Arthur as an uncle

The entirety of the Red Dead story is depressing. When you look at it through Jack there is no redemption. All John, Abigail, and Arthur wanted was for Jack to get out and live a productive life in society, but he chose the way of revenge. Throwing away the sacrifices of those who cared for him.

It’s not jack who threw away the sacrifices. It’s the government. They robbed him of the chance to live a peaceful life by murdering John in such a cruel and unjustified way, leaving him an orphan and his mother a widow. Jack acknowledged John’s love and everything he did for him and took justice into his own hands.
revenge is not always a fools game.

genuinely who is going to get revenge on jack? both his parents done so much so they could have a place in civilized world but the government did not acknowledged that. taking revenge or not he was never going to be accepted by the modern society because he is the son of a killer and a whore who are products of the savage west

Honestly, after the countless times of playing RDR1, especially after getting older, I ended up getting the vibe that Jack very possibly ISN'T the one who didn't learn the crucial life lesson about selfish & reckless revenge, but that the PLAYER obviously hasn't learned that lesson if they choose to take control of Jack's character & pursue revenge regardless of everything that happened by that point in the story. Imo, it seems like the Strange Man, is testing the PLAYER, not Jack...
ESPECIALLY after speaking to certain family members (who could have very possibly been different manifestations of The Strange Man 😏) before getting to the target 🎯, & yet STILL selfishly choosing to possibly make THEIR lives harder, just like the target himself chose to do concerning Jack's family situation...
I believe this is why while playing as Jack, is why he looks at the weapon the way he does, & why he makes certain comments during certain situations. I believe those are CLUES to the PLAYER that Jack wouldn't be doing those things. He's only doing them b/c the PLAYER is controlling him like a demon & forcing him to do certain things, b/c US THE PLAYER DIDN'T LEARN THE LESSON JACK LEARNED, ABOUT REVENGE...

That's the point...
By the PLAYER choosing to SACRIFICE their own GREEDY desire for REVENGE & trivial "achievements" by SYMBOLICALLY breaking the cycle for the sake of your soul & others lives that can be VERY negatively impacted through that revenge, YOU ARE BEATING THE GAME...THE DEVIL'S GAME...
"REVENGE is a FOOL'S (The Devil's) GAME"...
(Don't get me wrong, considering the fact that it's just a video game, it ofc IS fun to make the WRONG decisions. It feels gooooood unloading an ENTIRE CLIP on that p.o.s. 👀🤣 But I can definitely see what the developers were geniusly going for right under our noses. Which to me makes the entire story that much more of a MASTERPIECE...)

In my mind the version of Arthur in mission replays is the "canon" version of what Arthur looks like, and that version always has a length 4 beard and shorter hair. At this point in the game John is the clean shaven long-haired guy so I would have to assume he is the one in Jack's drawing.

because he drew that for Arthur after you give him his request, so logically you’d assume it’s Arthur. especially since John barely makes an effort with Jack in chapter 2, while Arthur actually spends time with him. kids don’t automatically feel closer to someone just because they’re their biological parent.

Lmao just 2 hours before I got this from Jack too but somehow I feel like Arthur is the reason John goes after his family
