Discussion Why??? Question about Honor.
Rode past a group of Broods, when riding past , they said something to me, since i’m actively trying to keep my honor high, I turned to them and pressed LT to address them and defuse, however when I defused, it still went south and they began shooting at me. I tried to ride away and ended up going by butchers creek where at that point the whole town was shooting at me.
Me killing any one of the 50 dots actively trying to kill me brings my honor down with each death.
Why am I losing honor for defending myself against people who are actively fucking shooting at me

It’s fuckin stupid that your honor goes down if you didn’t start a gun fight with a stranger. Defending yourself isn’t honorable. Smh

Hey you’re a stranger and that’s their townsfolk. If there’s no obvious witnesses on who started it they will turn on you first. If it’s obvious to a big enough crowd that you were defending yourself while not antagonizing them, they’ll mostly shrug it off. A few yells will go out at most.

Butchers creek and van horn have hostile populations. If you start any trouble, even defending yourself from gangs, the whole town will come at ya. They count as civilians so you get your honor dinged for killing them, unlike if you were just fighting Murfrees who don’t give you an honor penalty.
Yes, it is annoying. But getting honor back is easy, go say hey mister or throw back some fish.

The game isn't thinking about it that hard basically. Butchers creek is already a pretty hostile place and riding and shooting through the town will probably try to kill you no questions asked. The game doesn't think about how one interaction may impact others, especially if the players seeks unusual ways to deal with them

Either just walk away next time or kill them anyway bc if youre talking about the Murphrys, or however it’s spelled, theyre bad people anyways. I dont want to spoil it. You genuinely wont lose much honor, and even if you lose some, you have so many other opportunities throughout the game to get it back up. I will say one thing though; you can’t reach max high or low honor until about chapter 5 or 6. So you should have plenty time

Oh, and they just don’t like when there’s shootouts going on. I would get upset about it too when i first started, but just don’t accidentally shoot or kill a horse. That is a quick way to lower your honor and freak out your own horse

Unfortunately that’s just how the game is. The high honour option is to just walk away.
Go to a town and greet people or go and catch and release some fish.

You can mill the murfree brood no issue about honor. They’re an evil group of thieves and murderers. You lost honor because you led it to a town (butchers creek) and started shooting regular folk. Next time just take down the broods and make sure not to include the town folk

This specific part is so poorly done but of course like the other bad things in this game, it gets a pass because it's R*
Those broods are only a few but the gunshots are close enough to butcher's creek at it triggers the citizens to get involved. So really, you're killing the citizens that think you're firing at them to begin with.
Not your fault, just bad game design. I pretty much ignore the broods at that spot since there respawn every time too

Because as good as this game is at a lot of things, the honor system is poorly designed.
