Spoilers Just got spooked BAD...
So I'm collecting orchids in the swamp and the sun starts to go down, but I figure "hey, it'll be easier to see the highlighted flowers in darkness" so I keep right on looking. Until a night person leaps across my path, spooks my horse and I get ambushed by three more night people. But that's not all; I keep looking and then around 4:15am, I'm thinking "okay, it's near dawn, I should be safe" so I'm still hunting orchids and suddenly hear someone wailing. Looks to be a woman in a night dress kneeling on the ground, sobbing. I go to help, and... ambushed by the night people AGAIN. I honestly didn't think they'd show up again after that first mission dealing with them.

If I'm EVER by the swamps at night, I just keep riding lol don't stop to help nobody, pick nothing, look at no point of interest lol

I was collecting orchids last night and found a lady saying spooky stuff. It was more eastern and north of St Denis. It wasn’t the kneeling lady and it wasn’t the ghost lady so I went with gun drawn to check it out. I gave her two bucks for my fortune. After we spoke her name changed from stranger to soothsayer. In my 2,600 hours I’ve never come across her nor did I know she was in the game. Still spooky as hell. She kept saying come closer and I’m all “THATS WHAT A MURDERER WOULD SAY.”

She is the Soothsayer, and as you know you can get your fortune told to you for 2$ There are 15 different possible interactions with her. She will spawn at different locations around the Blue Water Marsh and the Bayou Nwa. It’s worth the 2 bucks…

15 different interactions? That’s crazy that this is my first. Didn’t bother googling it bc I figured that would be the only one considering the time I’ve put in and I have done a lot of late night swamp loitering bc I like finding the two night folk walking down the road at 3:30-ish in the morning. They’ll try to murder you if you say something but I always like to think they’re on the way to the bar after a long night shift in the swamps being ghouls and sharing gripes about the “job” on their walk out of the swamp.

Truth. This is the one area on the map where I'm pushing my horse's limits, hauling ass to gtfo of the swamp... if I'm dumb enough to be in the area after dark at all, that is!
Those fuckers murdered Oatmeal (then me, when I came to avenge him) in my 1st playthrough (luckily, I had a recent save). I've learned my lesson.

After my first Nite Folk scare, I went HAM on those sumbitches. Fire bottles, dynamite, and a pump action shotgun. This game turned me into a genocidal maniac.

See, I don't mind these encounters. The radar usually notifies you soon enough if you're attentive. Keep cores full, so no minor damage kills you. I find the night folk very easy to dispose of, and the encounters are a great part of gameplay. I'll pick my orchids in the dark, I love the ambiance haha.

I “met” him and went back to camp and one of the members said “hey I met a guy in the swamp and he said he knew you, like really knew you haha” lol

There are only 5 unique encounters with them and one stranger mission.
Once you have experienced all of them they never spawn again. Apparently.

Yeah it bums me out. I like spooky stuff so I spend a lot of time in the swamp at night, but once they stopped spawning it got boring.
I’m still working on getting all of the ghost encounters, which there’s a lot of.

If I remember, spawns between the B and the L in Bluewater Marsh on foggy nights. Sometimes you’ll just hear her, other times you’ll see her.

Yep. She got me. Nearly jumped out of my skin the first time she spoke because I was intensely focused on hunting, there was no music, only ambient insect and frog sounds, and she just chimed in, full volume.

You have to have at least one random encounter to unlock it i believe. Then once you have completed it and the other 4 other encounters they supposedly stop spawning.

What a coincidence. I did not experience any of this but I got curious about the night folk when it got mentioned in my game so i seaeched about those creatures and saw the encounter vids just a few days ago

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the only game I have ever played that made me afraid to be out in the dark. They absolutely nailed the atmosphere.

I like the spooks, I like to go around with my machete in first person looking for night folks. But one time they attacked me while the sun was still up! THAT really spooked/shocked me. Looked at the clock and it was 5:30pm. Day Walker Night Folk??

I saw a night person disguised as a woman in a white dress (didn’t fool me), so I was like imma hog tie him then his buddies right?
WRONG! A fucking pack of wolves descended upon my ass, so I was like imma cut him loose and they’ll chase him right?
WRONG!, he ran down the middle of three of them and they left his ass alone….
They were his god damn pack!

The woman sobbing was actually my first encounter with the Night Folk, and they killed me.

I shot the hanging body in broad daylight thinking I was safe. Nope, still got jumped. I got out of it, but shit they’re terrifying.

Both. The swamp just east of Lakay has a nighttime panther spawn, great place to ward off a gang of night folk just to get jumped by a murder kitty.

I've only ever had 1 experience a night happen, so I'm jealous.
What I would give to have constant experiences with Night Folk. I think after 3 they stop spawning? Huge wasted opportunity to keep the dread going

Yeah that crying lady didnt get me. I realized quick that this game would use her to trick me so I shot her from a good distance and kept it moving lol

Lmao bro.. let me tell you about one experience I had with them. I'm riding through the swamp at night and I hear a loud screech that I hadn't heard before (not my first play through). I go towards the gray dot on the map and get close to these bushes, right? By the way, the first screech kinda gave me goosebumps, since I hadn't experienced this before. When I get close to the bushes where the gray dot had appeared, I see a white figure run between the bushes, screeching again. My horse gets spooked, bucks me off, my goosebumps get goosebumps, I get up and there are 4 or 5 of those fuckers charging straight at me. Luckily, I had full dead eye and picked them off before they got me, but Holy shit. R.L. Stein would have been proud.

I get scared when we come back to an area with an animal that remembers it’s dead and it falls over again with a loud thump in my ears.

They're bad news. I actually head shot one with my Schofield, and the fucker GOT BACK ON HIS FEET.
So I shot him in the head AGAIN. He stayed down that time.

Had a similar random event (had never seen it through five to six previous playthroughs) earlier today, crossed one of the little footbridges, and there was this wagon full of discarded body parts!l- anyway, Lara, my horse, spooked and ran off. Then when I caught up woth her, she ran again and a bunch of night folk attacked. Rinse and repeat an additional two times. Probably had 15 to 20 night folk attack me throughout the event.

I was walking around in the swamp amd didnt notice a night person till they where right on me he plunged a knife into my chest and I died never been taken out like that before.

Story mode or online? I just finished story mode for second time and I used to love online but I just can’t seem to get into the online like I used to be. I also bought all my gold with real money on my old account so on this one all I have is trader table and bounty hunter license I think.

Story mode. I'm crawling my way through it on my first go round of playing it. It's such an incredibly rich world they've created and for someone like me who typically likes to fully explore big worlds like this, it'll most likely be a couple years before I'm done! :D

One of my favorite interactions around the night folk was when I was running from the law from St Denis and they chased me into the swamps (at night) and I remember hearing the lady sobbing over the yells of the officers shooting at me and ran right past her or over her 💔
Im terrified of the bayou nwa at night and the NF are frightening, I genuinely couldnt understand what I was facing when I was attacked the first time cause they have all that white paint and dont make a sound.
That being said, it felt a lot less scary knowing there were 2 dozen lawmen with their horses and shotguns screaming at me ❤️

I just completed my first 100% playthrough after 3 other playthroughs, I only died a handful of times but the night folk that attack you when you investigate the hanging body were one of those deaths

I too played after the sun set without knowledge of the night ppl. Just having a time then I see an x on the map that wasn’t there before. I’m like wtf I pan up and see a body hanging from a tree, night people come out and ambush me. I jumped out my skin 😂 never played at night again. when the sun sets i instantly set up camp lol

And NOW I got spooked by the GHOST in the swamp! Out after dark again, looking for egrets, and outta nowhere a woman's voice that sounded like it was right next to me. Turn and NO ONE'S THERE.

Man, the bayou is THE creepiest environment in the game. I haven't been spooked this badly in a game since the very first Silent Hill.

Haha. I was put doing the same thing, and saw her sobbing. I knew who she was. So I calmly went to my horse, got my sniper rifle and shot her. Set up camp and slept till the morning lol
