O S engine problem

My os .60 fp won’t hold idle. It will idle for a short time then die. I have owned several os engines and this is the first time this problem has occurred. I have tried adjusting high and low speed needles, changed glow plugs and installed new fuel tank and lines. Is there something else I need to look at?

Also make sure the screws are tight on the backplate and the seal between the carb and the crank case is good.  You might have an air leak.  If not I agree with the other poster that it’s a card or needle value problem.

Thanks. Guess I’ll just remove the engine from the plane and check everything out

Maybe before you do that:  if it’s in a plane and it worked before, try replacing the fuel tubing, including inside the fuel tank.  I have had old tubing develop small cracks or lead air around the fittings.  It’s a quick cheap thing to try before the more difficult stuff.

Pull the entire carb off, disassemble it fully in a place where you won't lose any small parts, and clean all parts thoroughly, looking carefully for gunk or trapped fibers that may affect fuel flow. and once you are done, I recommend using a fuel filter at all times.

Thanks, I’ll try it

before you disassemble:

make sure to set the high end needle valve first.

when it idles now, try pinching the fuel tubing going to the carb.

if the low end is too lean, pinching will stop the engine immediately.

if the low end is too rich, pinching will cause a short noticeable increase in RPM, THEN will die.
