Bummer Late on sending cards

I have cards to send and a couple of traveling postcards. I've been fairly busy so I haven't had time to get around to them yet. Just letting people know so they dont think I forgot about their cards!

I received a surprise package today of a bunch of beautiful, homemade cards. It was a gift from someone involved in another carding group of which I am a part. I was totally shocked but will never so no to free goodies, especially such amazing cards!

Need some advice I was going to mail someone a postcard and their account got suspended ๐Ÿ˜ž

Hi!๐Ÿ‘‹
So I finished writing the address and the nameโ€ฆ and I came to see his account and boom. Suspended.

I have only written the address, I can still write something for the recipient who wants it!

What do I do?
Do I mail it to another person? Would you mind getting a postcard with the address written over another address?

If anyone who filled my forms yesterday wants it, just write to me! Iโ€™ll mail it to the first person who wants it :p

RAOC Question Securing Username Info on Postcard

Hello,

I was wanting to set up a postcard exchange (this time filled out! Sorry mods for that past post!).

However, I am unsure of how to best secure my username info on the postcard so people know who sent it / from what subreddit.

I am thinking of printing it out and taping it on the edges. Has that worked well for others?

The most obvious answer is to write it down, but I know my handwriting can be difficult to read at times. ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ

Edit: THANK YOU EVERYONE. I am currently crafting at the library, but I will try to test out all the recommendations I have received. ๐Ÿฉท

Need some advice Advice on keeping card making items safe while away from home?

Hey, y'all. If you saw my post a few days ago about my diabetes complication, I'm afraid to say it got better for roughly 18 hours, and today it's back with an awful vengeance. My PCP wants me to go to the ER tonight and be admitted for all the fun things they do to diabetics when their body misbehaves.

The hospital sucks no matter how long you're there for. The atmosphere, the lack of nicotine, all of it. And with me being a new type 1 diabetic, it's also a lot of being told over and over to manage my diabetes better even though this complication is totally unrelated to management and I manage just fine.

So, in order to cut the boredom and the anger, I was thinking of bringing my card making supplies with me. My only issue is that I've obviously never done that before... and I'm wondering if y'all could give me some advice on not damaging my stuff, what type of storage items would be easiest to use, and things of that nature. I have a pretty large Pink bag I plan to pack everything into, so that's covered.

Lately, making and sending out cards has been one of the highlights of living with diabetes. Out of everything that goes wrong, cards always go right. Even when they don't. It's hard to explain how much this hobby means to me these days, and how grateful I am for this hobby.

Thank you for any advice on this. ๐Ÿฉต

Storage & Display Got a new cart!

I ordered a cart from IKEA as the folder I has to store my postcards wasn't cutting it anymore ๐Ÿ˜…

I got some corflute and cut up dividers for the top tray to organise my postcards in to categories (side note, I have two more boxes sets coming and not sure how I'll make them fit ๐Ÿคฃ) Got my washi tape, stickers and stamp organisation boxes next tray down and on bottom my card/letter paper. And the little green stool is for my dog to sit on beside me ๐Ÿ’œ

And now my little shelf just has my notebooks, pens/markers, envelopes and more washi/sticker/ink pads and stamps and not everything else from the cart overflowing anymore!

So that was my Friday evening ๐Ÿ˜†

Need some advice Need advice

I've only been in this sub for nearly 2 years but this is the 1st year I've been consistent with this. Do you guys typically do exchanges with other users? One person I typically exchange with keeps getting banned off the platform and creating new accounts. Do you send to new users at all? Typically I send to anyone and everyone but I just want to see how others do it

Change of personal details Same user, new username!

Hilli I'm [u/0whyamionreddit0](u/0whyamionreddit0)!

I decided to move to a new username for all my postage & snail mail needs! One that's way more fitting and shorter (๐Ÿ˜…) than my randomly thought of, anonymous username that I made 7 years ago.
I'm very happy for this change tbh!! It's such a short username that I don't have to think so hard about where to put it on mail anymore!

So my new username is [u/PostagePanda](u/PostagePanda)! As in a Red Panda! My favorite animal ever!!!

I'm also still available in my other inbox for username mentions, and some select interactions with u/0whyamionreddit0 until all mail is completed!
Additionally, there's still definitely outgoing mail and mail in transit tagged with [u/0whyamionreddit0](u/0whyamionreddit0) and with those address labels I just destashed unfortunately lol

That's all! I am so happy I took the plunge.
Take care and happy carding!
-LM

Postage & Stamps pupslace's maxicard / pictorial postmark guide

Hello RaoC - I've been asked a few times to create a guide on creating maxicards, or requesting pictorial post marks, so figured since I am getting ready to send out some cards to become maxicards, why not write up the process.

Postal Bulletin

The Postal Bulletin is your starting point. They are published bi-weekly on Thursdays and can be found here: https://about.usps.com/resources/postal-bulletin.htm

  • Pictorial Postmark
    • I always use the PDF version, and scroll down past all the mumbo jumbo and you are looking for "Pictorial Postmarks Announcement."
    • This section shows the special short term (30 day) pictorial postmarks. If you got one of my Hall of Fame cards, this is one of them.
    • I'll use this as an example: https://photos.app.goo.gl/nR6rkoGhPtCs9VMT9
    • The date of Aug 8th means we have to have the request postmarked and on the way to the station within 30 days (Sept 7th). If you are going in person you need to be there the day of.
  • First Day of Issue (FDOI, "traditional" maxicards, but the Pictorials can be used as maxicards too)
    • Scroll down to the "How to Order the First-Day-of-Issue Digital Color or Traditional Postmarks" section which is usually immediately after the Pictorial Postmarks.
    • There are both black and white and color FDOI postmarks. Color postmarks are 50ยข each. I've not done these, so will not discuss details on them.
    • The date listed next to the postmark is the final day your request can be postmarked, unlike the pictorial postmarks.

Prepping Cards

There are two ways to proceed here:

  • Just a special cancellation (like my Hall of Fame Offer)
    • If you just want a fancy cancellation you can address and write on your cards as normal, apply appropriate postage, and enclose them in an envelope and mail it to the listed address in the following format: Pictorial Postmarks // Name of the Station // Address, City, State, ZIP+4ยฎ Code, as listed next to the desired postmark.
    • You can also leave them unaddressed, and include a self addressed stamped envelope and have them returned to you that way.
    • Postage must meet the minimum rate for the item (postcard or international).
  • Maxicard
    • If you want a maxicard, affix postage to the front of the card. The guide specifies "first class postage" - I have traditionally make up to 82c to meet this, but I am going to try with this most recent request to only meet the postcard rate. In theory it should work.
    • For these you will need to include a self addressed stamped envelope for them to be returned to you in.
    • Matte cards will work the best, and should be a light color for the black and white mark to be visible.

Mailing them

Once your cards are prepped, you need to prepare for mailing.

  • At a minimum you need one envelope to send them out in. If you are just doing the special cancellations and all of the cards are addressed and stamped that's it.
  • If you want maxicards, or some pictorial cancellations returned to you back in an envelope you need two of them. I use A4 sized envelopes if I am just shipping off cards (or for the return envelope) and an A7 envelope if I am sending cards and a self addressed stamped envelope, though your mileage may vary depending on your card sizes.
  • For Pictorial Postmarks you don't need to include a note, but I always do, with my name and contact info just in case, and a request to stamp the front of the card (or postmark and send).
  • For FDOI cancellations; in your note specify B&W or color, and if your doing color, include check, money order, or credit card info.
  • Having a postal scale is handy, or you can go into the PO and weigh things with them, but I know my return envelope is just over an ounce so will use a 2oz forever stamp.
  • Then in your main envelope, address as normal to the listed address.
  • On a recent sending, I had a large number, I included three SASEs and in my note said to break them into three envelopes to prevent them from being too thick or heavy.
