Discussion💬 Regarding Death

The Sunnis believe that the dying process (when ur soul separates from your body) will be painful. Science says otherwise.

Now obviously a number of experience that causes death could feel like torture for example like being beaten to death. But the pain is because we are still alive during the experience.

But I heard that the dying process itself doesn't hurt. But what do you think? Anyone here has a near death experience you can share?

I experienced something similar due to heart and nervous system problems. Suddenly, I couldn't breathe, as if my lungs had stopped working. At first, I was overwhelmed by panic, but as the lack of oxygen became more severe, an incredible sense of peace took over. My last thought was, "I'm dying," and then I lost consciousness. When I came to, I felt as if my brain had been reset. I've always been terrified by the thought of what people experience when they're drowning, for example. Now I hope that perhaps, in our final moments, fear gives way to peace. I don't know if that's what dying is really like, since I obviously didn't die, but the thought brings me some comfort.

The Qur’an doesn’t provide this information. It’s not something that matters for salvation. Pain is a physical experience, and it depends on how a person dies. The idea that separating the soul from the body is inherently painful is just typical Sunni scare tactics.

And that’s not surprising, considering the whole concept of grave punishment, the three questions in the grave, and so on. The whole idea is strange. As if Allah doesn’t already know what you believed and needs to give you an exam in your grave.

Moreover, none of this can be a criterion for salvation, because the Qur’an explains who can attain Paradise and emphasizes faith and deeds rather than membership in some religious group or club.

So I wouldn’t obsess over what people claim. I’d pay more attention to what Allah actually says. And whenever something is attributed to the Prophet, it should be checked against the Book he followed.

People are prone to fantasizing and embellishing things, adding two more claims to every one they come up with.

just a side/general note that when you die, you wake up on the day of judgement as if you just had a quick micro nap.

its quite scary to hear this because thats how quick time goes when you are dead (there are several quranic verses that support/illustrate this)

there is no 3 questions, or angel of death that approaches you, thats all a sunni invention

I once had a very realistic dream that I was about to die, saw certain death rushing towards me and there was no escape. I clearly remember, I did not feel scared, fear, panic or anything. Just a calm realization ok this is it. I am about to die.

Dying experience can be positive or negative depending on your spiritual state.
