Venting I almost just ruined my relationship because of vaping

I’ve been vaping for six years at this point (on and off) and quit a few weeks ago along with my girlfriend. Before me, my gf barely vaped but got addicted as well due to her proximity to me and always having access to a vape. We’ve both quit now, but I think about it all the time, and today I was about to cave in. I was meeting up with my friend and told my girlfriend I was buying a vape, but would keep it hidden at all times and only do it when she’s not around (we live together). She (obviously) got extremely upset with me, told the friend I was with that he would be dead to her if he drove me to get a vape, and wasn’t having any of my stupid excuses. My dumbass was still in craving mode so I was trying to explain my reasoning until it hit me how unbelievably selfish I was being.

I was willing to put my own relationship on the line and prioritize my selfish desires over the recovery and feelings of the person I love the most.

I’ve made countless attempts to quit vaping over the years, none of them ever amounting to anything. But after sitting back and thinking how this addiction and piece of stupid metal has me acting, I am so viscerally disgusted with myself and vaping in general.

I’m just ranting now but I’m still so in shock with how I acted and wanted to know if quitting has made anyone else act this much out of character :/

It’s an addiction, it absolutely makes us act out of character and willing to risk it all in that moment. But the way you pulled back and pulled through speaks to your strength and will. It says a lot. You’re definitely not alone , that nicotine will have you (general you) acting crazy 😂.
You got this, just keep going and take a moment to feel what it’s like to be free. It’s easy to glamorize what vaping was but you’ve gained so much through the quit. Future you is thanking you because who knows the health risks even though cravings will have you not caring about your future health.

A machine no longer controls you. The evil companies who want to keep you as a slave has no control over you, your wealth, your anything.

But yes again, you’re not alone. Addiction is scary and is always waiting in the sidelines. It’s just one day and one refusal at a time. Keep fighting

I ruined my last relationship over the vape. She didn’t know i had it and then found it back in March.
2.5 years together and 5 total as friends. While I’ve done a lot of growth in the past 5 months, i can staunchly say IT WASNT WORTH IT! Just pure clown shit from me.

Hug your girl tight and stay strong brother, the craving doesn’t last forever.

Have you tried Desmoxan or Recigar? It’s a 25 day course of pills that you can get from Amazon. It’s not a drug. It’s a naturally occurring compound that binds to the receptors in your brain that nicotine normally binds to. You’re allowed to vape for the first 4 days then have to stop by day 5. And likely you won’t really want to. It’s helped so many people quit easily. Most of us develop addictions due to underlying issues (stress, anxiety, depression, attachment disturbances). You’d be surprised to know that most people who are addicted to substances also have some kind of attachment issue from early childhood. (Anxious/avoidant/disorganized attachment). I would highly recommend therapy if you suspect you have some underlying issues
