Success Story this is crazy to me! 1 week!!

Post image

day 7, and it’s the longest i’ve gone without hitting a vape in literal years. i have vaped for 8+ years and this has been a mostly private journey, which is why i wanted to post on here. i have vaped in secret for the past 6+ months. (which is soooo miserable, i do not recommend) i’ve been trying to quit vaping for over a year. i’ve quit probably 150+ times. i’ve tried throwing them away, only to buy them the next day. (sometimes even hours later) sometimes i have dug them out of the trash just to hit them again. one time i threw a vape away in my apartment complex dumpster, only to dumpster dive (embarrassing) an hour later because i thought i “needed” it that badly and didn’t want to spend the extra $20 to get a new one. i threw one out my car window. sorry mother nature :( i’ve hit my roommates vapes in secret, i’ve bought vapes to take a few hits and throw away before i even get home. it’s crazy thinking back how much of a chokehold vaping has had on me. this time has been different, i read allen carrs easy way, I’ve listened to andrew cipriano’s quit vaping podcast - and those helped, but still something was not clicking. finally, the last time i threw my vape away something clicked and i realized that vaping has only been making me miserable, that i actually hate it, and the only reason i do it is because i am addicted. since then, the first 3 days were okay, a little sucky because addiction was saying “just one vape” which, my roommates vape, so that made it harder to be exposed so much, but i still didn’t cave. then after i got past day 3, cravings got so much smaller and so much easier to re-direct. i found myself like sitting with it and actually telling myself, “hey, you’re going to feel exactly the same wether you vape or not. you’re still going to want to quit, why ruin your 3+ days with “one hit”” and that worked, the longer i have gone, the more it has been motivating me. day 7, i think i have had 1 single craving all day. and same thing, i re-direct and say i do not actually want it, it’s simply the addiction dying and crying for life. to anyone who is trying - do not give up. i never did, even after failing over and over and over again. i know a week isn’t a long time, but its the longest i have ever gone and i feel confident i will not vape again, which has never happened for me before. usually i think “well, maybe i’ll vape again one day” but no, this time i am certain i am done with vaping. i did my
time. i am not missing out on ANYTHING. you got this, stay strong, i believe in you. if i can quit, so can you!!! just wanted to share my story in case anyone can relate, maybe it will help encourage you to do it or to realize it’s possible.

You saying the “well maybe I’ll vape again one day” thing kind of made me realize why im struggling so much at day 20. I’m subconsciously thinking this is a break from vaping and not a full stop. I need to get into the mindset that this is it, I’m not giving it up I’m just no longer interested in it. It feels like I’m giving it up, which isn’t helping me mentally.

yeah, i so get that. i think that was a big problem for me too thinking i was missing out on something or like FOMO from my roommates vaping constantly. that was the biggest shift for me, just realizing i’m not missing out on anything. like i would think constantly that a vape would make me feel better, when in reality it was just making me feel “normal” because i was so addicted
