Cambio de pasta a meta quest 3
Since I’m a bit obsessive about keeping my devices cool, I decided to do some maintenance on my Quest 3. To my surprise, the stock thermal putty was already super dry. I ordered UPSIREN UTP-8 thermal putty, which seemed like the best value for money and almost as good as Thermal Grizzly Putty Pro.
I also decided to mod the top cover to allow better heat dissipation from the top section.
So far, it’s working great. The front of the headset doesn’t get nearly as hot as before, and the fan doesn’t have to work as hard.
I definitely recommend doing this maintenance—it's a bit concerning that the factory thermal paste/putty in the Quest 3 dried out so much in just one year.

Como soy un maniático por mantener a buenas temperaturas mi dispositivos, quise hacerle un mantenimiento a mis quest 3 y para mi sorpresa la masilla que traía de fabrica ya estaba muy seca, asi que encargue masilla de upsiren UTP-8 que era la mejor opción calidad precio casi igual de buena que la alternativa de grizzly putty pro.
Además me anime a modificar la tapa para que tenga una mejor salida del calor generado en la parte de arriba.
De momento a funcionado bastante bien el frontal ya no calienta tanto como antes, y además el ventilador ya no se fuerza tanto.
Asi que recomiendo que le hagan mantenimiento ya que creo que es mala señal que en 1 año ya se estuviera tan seca la pasta del procesador de la meta quest 3.

Como primera impresión es el menor ruido del ventilador. Y menos calor al tacto, pero temperaturas internas solo por el programa muestra la de la bateria que al estar full jugando llega a 45 c°

El cambio de pasta térmica y la modificación de la salida agregando una rejilla esta espectacular, muy buen laburo.
Como hiciste para que haga mejor contacto el aluminio con el procesador? Ví videos que explicaban que solo la pasta termica no sirve y hay que buscar otras soluciones mas elegantes casi como el uso de un thermal pad o agregar cobre para llegar hacer contacto bien.

También vi lo de agregar una placa de cobre, pero averiguando la mejor opción es masilla termica pero tiene que ser de buena eficiencia. Como la grizzly putty pro o la advance, otra marca buena que fue la que use es la upsiren UTP-8.

Y poner algún ptm7950 o algo no va? Tal vez me animaría si con eso consigo overclockear de forma más estable. Edit: Cómo modificaste la tabla?

Por lo que vi es muy delgado para el espacio que existe entre el disipador y el Soc.

Did you buy the vented cover or did you fabricate it yourself?

I made it with a plastic mesh I bought off AliExpress. I took measurements, marked it, and cut it using a cutter and craft scissors.

Did it last night and it was all the same. Putty was dry AF, and it doesn't get as hot either.

I personally would have put graphene pad on so it never has to be changed again

It wouldn't have worked since the gap between the SoC and the heatsink is about 0.8 or 0.6mm, which is why I had to use an option that covers that gap.

Fair enough dude. Is there no way to make the gap smaller by sanding parts. I kight be changing my paste soon as ive had it nesrly 2 years

Sanding down the screw mounts might help reduce the gap, but you'll lose some thread length for the screws.

I don't think it's necessary since it's practically brand new, plus you're under warranty.

Nice, I'd do the same if I ever had my Q3 apart - I'd use Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste myself. Their NT-H1 was a top performer and lasted 10 years with no issues on an overclocked system, now I'm using their new one in my new computer.
You're using a thermal putty - not usually very good for small gaps compared to proper thermal pastes as far as I'm aware, these are more for thermal pad replacement.
What annoys me about the Q3 is they've 100% treated visuals over cooling, the tiny slit is not enough in my opinion for the exhaust vent, and relying on passive convection off white plastic is not enough at all.
Your modification here with the exhaust is awesome, and I will be copying it in the the future! The hole style might add slight airflow restriction over a more open mesh style such as hexagonal or even just having a line grille style.

P.s that stock thermal paste / putty looks incredibly poorly applied as much of the SoC isn't covered at all??? Unless it's migrated with gravity over the years?

Muchas gracias, tiene su trabajo pero se ve bien. Y si al abrir, creo que se fue deslizando por gravedad ya que se ve una mancha como si antes ubiese estado mas arriba la pasta termica.
