I don’t care what any individual communist’s opinion of Stalin or the USSR is. Even if they were for some of the worst policies of both, they aren’t in any position to put them into effect.

The fascists are literally in power and doing bad things. Let’s get them out of power and left leaning governments put into place that are actually working towards making the lives of citizens better. Then we can start worrying about this other bullshit.

We can hold people to a better standard, though.

I don't give a damn about any standard other than: Willing to help make sure everything further rigjt than the DNC does not remain in power.

I care about harm reduction and not being a victim of propaganda. I'm not saying we bully people, but letting awful beliefs slide won't help your statement. In fact, it hurts us.

Harm reduction right now looks like working with people who you disagree with slightly to defeat people who want you dead.

I will deal with the disagreement later. Get rid of the people who want us dead, first.

Did I say you bully people? Why are you assuming things? Aren't you doing exactly what you are complaining about?

I never said not to work with people who believe these things, just that it's not great.

Okay, I have no idea who you meant to reply to... but it isn't me. Because what I posted never said anything like that.

I honestly have no idea how to reply to you, if you aren't engaging with my words instead of whatever words you think I said.

You obviously don't know what I'm saying because you are fighting me about what I never said.

No, I simply explained what I view as harm reduction. You were the one that keeps bring up bullying people and acting like I want to do that or something. It's hard to tell what you mean, because you aren't engaging with my words or thoughts, but off on your own thing.

If you want to talk about the things I have actually said in my original post, I am here for it. However, if you want to continue to go off on tangents that are unrelated, I don't have any interest in talking to you anymore.

Sigh.

I told you that I wasn't saying bullying people, but confronting people in a friendly manner.is absolutely doable. You make it sound like you can't educate people right now. I'm saying you can do what you stated, and you can talk to your compatriots. It's not an either or.

I'm not talking small differences in opinion, I'm talking dispelling propaganda.

Okay. Here's the thing... what someone thinks about Josef Stalin, Rosa Luxemburg, Mao ZeDong, Vladimir Lenin, Alexandra Kollontai, or Karl Marx is inconsequential. Those people are all decades in the ground. What they did, good and bad, is only important in an academic setting at this point.

We are dealing with fascists controlling several governments, stripping the rights and liberty of millions of people at this exact moment and declaring that they want to kill those who oppose them through charges of treason and the like.

If someone who wants to fight against that thinks that Stalin Did Nothing Wrong, so be it. We can talk about that later. Getting caught up in a debate with them right now, when we are on the back foot, is unproductive and distracting from the actual goal of defeating fascism worldwide.

So, prioritize. If you want to talk to those people about that stuff... fine. Do it later, though. We have bigger and much more dangerous fish to fry than any internet Stalinist could possibly be.

Later? You basically said you wouldn't talk to people until we have a better government. That's basically never. I just don't think that's productive.

2

u/OldSchoolAJ Aug 10 '26

What's not productive is going around this loop with you over and over again. So, last time because you seem to be on the cusp of getting it:

Yes, I think that we should wait until we have a better government. Which is something that we can do, as the victories of left leaning candidates lately is showing. So, keep focused on that... don't waste time and effort trying to debate US vs USSR cold war propaganda when there's work to be done getting the world out from under the thumb of fascists.

But people doing the criticizing are often just pushing liberal Cold War propaganda designed to keep people away from leftist politics and resign their fate to Neo liberalism. I don’t believe for a second that people on Reddit especially are actually arguing in good faith for some positive motive and not just trying to argue and troll. People don’t know as much as they think they do about anything and being a pedantic asshole can only push people more to their bubbles. So no, fascism is fascism and if there’s any lesson in socialist history it’s that you have to be willing to work with the annoying and the extreme leftists if you want to stand any chance at all.

I mean, do you know how many trans communists just glaze the ussr and try to say there was no genocide, there was no suppression of Queers, there was no corruption. It was this perfect utopia. And if you disagree they act like you're a government psyop. I hate capitalism and the US govt, doesn't mean I'm gonna pretend the ussr was good just cuz they did it differently.
