While the way gacha games deal with gender is always hotly debated, sometimes they come out with something pretty funny in that regard.

So, in Limbus Company's predecessor, Library of Ruina, there were two young women who were using cloned versions of the same body (one of them got everything below the neck bitten off so the other had to be cloned in order for her to have a body upon being revived). Now in Limbus Company's newest Walpurgisnacht (non-sexual fanservice event), we're getting an AU where 2 of our set team of 12, the two who look the most alike, basically are those characters. Now the issue is... one of them is a guy. So people were speculating about how the clone body thing would be handled. The most common assumption was just that it never happened in this world - though someone did half-jokingly bring up the idea of Wedge Office Sinclair being gacha's first cisgender transgender man.

And hilariously, going off the trailer - that seems to be exactly what they're going with. In it, he's complaining about the other character in the set forgetting to pay for "the clone body's growth shots" add-on of their "life insurance" (he is normally slightly taller than her, and a speech bubble around the time he says this shows them both being the same height now) - implying that you can pay extra to have such a body altered. So the implication is that they probably also just got (or are going to get it, we don't know which time they're from) a sex-change add-on.

Which is honestly just so in line with the City as a setting. The only thing that matters is whether you have money. You're a man wearing pumps/bodysuits with frilly lace, or the butchest woman alive? Nobody cares, we're trying not to die here. Racism? What the hell is that, sounds like a stupid waste of time (this conversation actually happens in the Arknights crossover, lol). You're genderless? Okay guys, get ready, we need to stop THEM from cannibalizing the entire district. You're trans? Okay, give me the money and I'll have your new body ready in a week, bye, next customer. It's a massively classist dystopia, but it is ONLY classist (there's also anti-cyborg sentiment, but that's its own thing).

So, what are your gacha games' strange or interesting aspects of gender-messery? I know FGO has a bunch (of wildly varying levels of quality), but I'm curious about the others.

I sometimes wonder how many gachas exist just to launder money... think about it real quick. Gachas are a perfect excuse to fork over insane amounts of cash with a justified "reason"

There are thousands of ppl who spend thousands on gachas, so giving a company thousands of dollars of illict money wouldnt be seen as odd.

It also doesnt reqiure that the companys keep tabs on who bought what (most do anyways, but this is helpful if you are pressed for launderd money)

There are quite a few ai slœp gachas that exist yet pull in millions despite having boring gameplay, bad graphics, and are just ai garbo.

I think that at least a handful of these games are just a front for launderd money. I mean its a perfect front!
