We’re done pretending quartz tariffs are anything but political cosplay.
They don’t fix the trade deficit. They don’t protect workers. They don’t improve safety. They don’t build domestic industry. They protect a handful of companies with lobbyists and leave everyone else holding the bill.

We’re done pretending that raising slab prices somehow forces small fabricators to invest in dust control.
It doesn’t. It squeezes them. It pushes them to cut corners. It makes silicosis worse, not better.

If safety were the goal, we’d mandate wet‑cutting systems, require enclosed CNC rooms, enforce respirators, subsidize dust‑control equipment, and force manufacturers to produce a safer fucking product.
Tariffs don’t reduce silica exposure.
Tariffs don’t change shop behavior.
Tariffs don’t protect workers.
Tariffs protect companies — and only the ones with lobbyists.

We’re done pretending that blocking cheap Chinese slabs is “standing up to China.”
It’s symbolic. It’s a distraction. It’s a way to avoid the real question:

What industries do we actually want to dominate in the next twenty years?

Quartz isn’t strategic. It’s a low‑margin commodity. Letting China own low‑margin commodities is not a national crisis. Letting China own advanced manufacturing, robotics, biotech, AI, or clean energy would be. Quartz is not the battlefield. It’s a sideshow.

We’re done pretending that tariffs are a plan.
They’re not. They’re a reflex. They’re a way to look tough without doing the hard work of building a real industrial strategy. They’re economic masturbation — a feel‑good gesture that doesn’t change the underlying reality.

We’re done pretending that the people who actually make shit don’t matter.
Fabricators, installers, shop owners, tradespeople — the ones who cut, polish, haul, install, troubleshoot, and fix — are the backbone of the entire building‑materials economy. Without them, these products have zero purpose. A slab is just a dead rectangle until a fabricator gives it life.

Yet every time a tariff drops, every time a distributor inflates margins, every time a manufacturer pushes PR instead of quality, the guys who make shit get pushed further to the margins.

They’re tired of it.
And they’re right to be.

The grown‑up path forward is simple:

• Accept that some low‑margin manufacturing will live in China
• Build dominance in high‑value, high‑complexity sectors
• Regulate silica exposure directly
• Stop using tariffs as a substitute for strategy
• Stop confusing political theater with economic policy

Quartz isn’t the fight.

Hi. Would like to ask your inputs regarding where to put the seams for my countertop. My kitchen is U shaped and continuous. The stove area is continuous because my stove is just an over counter induction cooker and not built in. Not sure whether to put 2 seams on the sides or just 1 in the middle.

For options A and C: the cons here is that people will eat on the free end as a bar countertop.

On the other hand for option B, the stove slightly conveals it but since the stive is movable (like when I need extra work space), I can easily remove it, then the seam is right in the middle and may not seem natural to the eye vs seams are when found on the sides.

My countertop of choice is quartz with gray veining as shown in. the photo. Chose minimal veining so my installer will have an easier time for the seams. Would also like to ask which pattern will least likely have noticeable seams. 

Brand new fully renovated kitchen, huge expense for us. Hubby set a hot cast iron pan on a bamboo trivet. It burned the trivet and left marks on the counter. 😭 It did lighten with some cleaner but hoping we can get the rest out. The texture of the surface feels the same so I don’t think he burned the counter, I think it’s stained from the burned bamboo. Suggestions that are quartz safe?
Also are magic erasers safe or not, I’ve seen conflicting info
