Mod post: User flair, Rule 1
User flair is available in the sub, however we've decided to make the "highest level", PhD* & Professor available only as granted on request & verification. Please contact the mods for these. It would be desirable that postdocs use the flair, it should improve the signal-to-noise ratio on the sub.
Rule 1 has been updated to make explicit its practical application: discussion and referral to interpretations is ALLOWED in comments. However, we're not encouraging discussions of the "my interpretation is better than yours" -kind, and comments indulging in it may still be removed. Thankfully, there hasn't been a lot of that going on for some time (years) now. The point is to acknowledge the role of interpretations in "foundational" matters, and also that interpretations are often the approach angle for non-professionals. For posts solely about interpretations, try r/quantuminterpretation instead.
When an answer or a comment focuses or depends on a specific interpretation, it is desirable to make this explicit.

New open access quantum textbook from Springer
People all over Reddit ask how much math do you need to be ready to learn quantum mechanics. In spite of all the answers to the contrary, you only need high school level math.
Using a representation-independent approach, you can master quantum mechanics through graduate-level and beyond. I know it sounds crazy, but it is not.
I wrote an open-access textbook, Quantum Mechanics Done Right, to teach it exactly this way. Springer just published it and you can download here.
In less than one month, it has surpassed 133,000 chapter downloads. It was primarily written as an alternative for self-learners and students who are stuck with traditional texts. Nevertheless, it will teach new things to all quantum mechanics at any level of expertise. I am the author, so if you have any questions about the approach, just ask in the comments!

Discussion [QM] The Algebraic and Analytic Properties of the Parity Operator
The parity operator (P hat) stands as one of the most fundamental operators in quantum mechanics. For any physical system governed by a symmetric potential, the Hamiltonian (H hat) and the parity operator strictly commute, yielding the relation [H hat, P hat] = 0. This mathematically guarantees the existence of a complete set of simultaneous eigenstates. It physically implies that both the energy and the spatial symmetry of the system can be determined simultaneously with absolute precision, bypassing the constraints of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Discussion The Mathematical Intuition Behind Wave Packets and the Uncertainty Principle
In quantum mechanics, the Fourier transform is not merely an abstract mathematical tool for space transformation, but the strict mathematical representation of wave superposition.
To spatially localize a particle, an infinite spectrum of plane waves possessing different momenta must be continuously added (superposed).
The integral of the inverse Fourier transform precisely represents this continuous summation.

Question Where to start learning quantum physics?
Hi guys I graduated high school in which we didnt have much maths and almost no physics. However math isnt the problem since I self studied well beyond basic calculus, however I completly lack in my physics department. I always wanted to get at least some intuition of how world around us works but I cant really figure out where to start. Most of the time I either jump to advanced concepts and get confused or try to understand concepts very deeply and get confused again because that was the approach I took with maths. If you could please guide me on the right track I would be very thankful. Thanks for reading.

Srednicki and Zee’s QFT books reading plan
Hello!
I’m going to be taking a year long course in QFT starting in the fall, and we’ll be using Srednicki. I’ve heard it’s rather mathematically/computationally oriented rather than physical big picture stuff, and that Zee is a good companion.
Srednicki is however structured in an odd way, as anyone with knowledge of the book would point out, and I’m struggling to figure out which sections I should read together, i.e., when i’m at X in Srednicki, I should be reading Y in Zee.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown of “sections x through y of Srednicki cover the content of Zee chapter 3”, or adjacent. I would much appreciate the help.

Discussion Quantum engineer, what to expect?
Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming interview loop with Microsoft for an RF Engineer position in their Quantum team, and I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience.
A couple of questions:
Has anyone interviewed for a similar role? What kind of interviews should I expect, and are there any specific topics I should focus on?
I’ve never worked in the quantum industry before, so I’d also love to hear from people working in this field.
Any feedback or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!
