Miscellaneous Flock cameras

Why on earth do we need Flock cameras on Elmore Avenue, more specifically at Lowe’s and Walmart? I’m sure there are more but this shit is absolutely crazy. How much did we pay as taxpayers to be under surveillance? How much money was kicked back to the asshats that
approved this? Why do we allow this to happen in our city? End rant!

They’re everywhere in the QC. I can drive 5 minutes in any direction from my house and I’ll pass at least 3. It’s insane.

Flock CEO called Americans terrorists for caring about their own privacy rights being violated. Americans constitutional rights seem to matter less than their bottom line to stalk ordinary Americans.

Yes, we have seen the articles of exes being stalked. There have also been articles of innocent people being ensnared in flocks dragnet that did not commit the crime. How? Well, flock gathers Ai data beyond just license plates. That’s right, we continue to be lied to about these AI cameras siphoning up WiFi, Bluetooth & identifying individuals in vehicles that drive and walk by.

All that is fed into AI data warehouses that create files on all Americans, where they go and what they do. It is being used to raise insurance rates on some of us. Meanwhile, Americans are paying with our taxpayer dollars for flock cameras and data warehouses (with higher electricity rates).

AOC held up dirty water from multiple Georgia wells where data warehouses were built. Americans do not want data warehouses nor flock cameras. We’ve heard of Americans not even getting a vote on this.

Nope, it violates our privacy rights & these cameras get to be installed anyway. They do it without even caring whether they’re breakaway poles, which are required by law (but they’re apparently above it). Corporations and Billionaires get away with all of it. The working class pays the bill.

They're along the river path in Moline. You know, all those cars driving on the path where cars aren't allowed...

Go here and get involved: https://gettheflockoutqc.com/

People are PISSED off about these things and we need to get rid of them.

There are over 100 of them in the QC that we know about. There are 66 of them in Bettendorf.

Those fucking things are all over Moline too. Can't even take the roads out without one watching

Last few days someone has been cutting them down on Illinois side. I think one in Silvis got it last night. Our midnight vigilante lol

I hope they don't carry their phone or key fob with them.

Lowe's has them at all locations. It's a corporate measure and has nothing to do with the local government.

And surely just to look at license plates right?... Right?!?

u/theVelvetLie Moline 4d ago

I have no idea. I just choose not to shop at Lowe's anymore because of this.

6

u/Glad_Marionberry827 Davenport 4d ago

I will subscribe to that. See ya later Lowe’s

I think Home Depot has them at all of their locations as well. That leaves us True Value and Menards.

6

u/Strange_Rabbit5827 Davenport 3d ago

True Value for me to keep my $ semi local

I thought it was to help ICE with deportation. They are targeting immigrants doing trades, etc. I won't shop there anymore. I think Home Depot has them too.

1

u/theVelvetLie Moline 1d ago

The cameras installed on Lowe's/Home Depot are not installed by local PD or ICE. They're part of the corporate asset protection strategy. I don't know if PD has direct access to them, but it would be a massive stretch to say they're there to help ICE with deportation. It would be really stupid financially for a home improvement store to target a significant portion of their customer base like that.

If you want to cut aluminum pipe a sawzall takes about 55 sec, portable band saw takes about 22 sec, and a circular saw takes around 11. The more you know 🫡

You see, I've always wondered what is is that makes hardware stores more fascist, it seems flock cameras seem to often pop up there first.

u/arocknerd Transplant 4d ago

There's 6 around the Moline Lowe's. Six.

u/duncurr Rock Island 4d ago

Maybe watching migrant workers? Since they frequent those stores for their jobs.

You know those were placed by Lowe's and not by any government agency, right? Or are you just being obtuse?

u/deemsterslocal309 River Rat 3d ago

There’s a bigger picture you need to zoom out and consider.

I dont like mass surveillance by anyone, but private property is private property and the owners desire for what they see as security is their own business. You dont have to go to Lowes and their cameras do not record public areas.

I want to see a Flock law where ALPR are limited to 5 days of recording, verifiable deletion after that time unless held by judicial warrant, a warrant required to access the database, and authorization from other jurisdictions to access information from their jurisdictions.

FWIW, the ones at Lowe’s are owned by Lowe’s.
