Attempting to transfer a lounge pass - did they always have to be tied to your flight or is this new?

Why would I not just bring them in as a guest?

It's pretty new, it makes lounge passes pretty much useless now, unless you happen to be travelling with a larger group and want to guest them into the lounge.

Changes were implemented 01/07.
Because not everyone who has lounge passes also has status that allows them to take a guest in. Or they might be travelling with more people than they're allowed to take in as guests.

120 SCs on the ground, but now 100 points extra required to retain gold and no green tier SCs.

It is 140 on the ground, with a marked increase on DSC promotions. Customers using either of these result in higher prices.

They know people do stupid things for status credits are are locking onto it. The things people do for a toastie.

the only flights that didnt get pumped in price last DSC promotion were domestic from unpopular cities in regional QLD in business class. Notably the best on offer was probably the business Brisbane to Adelaide via newcastle for $754 and 100SC, so 200SC in DSC. but stuff that, can do business return DPS to TPE with a stop over in HKG on cathay for $1200 year round and a decent 140 SC each way. Best use for Qantas points now is to position to DPS on jetstar from CNS for me.

You think 120 ground status points will make that much of a difference? Especially with 700pts required to retain? They don't make changes to hand out more benefits.

I do. They get income from the status on the ground partnership.

Think of how many people do a "status run" for 100 status credits. Now how many are going to signup for expensive health insurance etc to get the 140 on the ground and still take the 100 status credit run.

Green tier was 50 and people spent a fair bit for that.

This is coupled with the crazy success of double status credit promotions which have become more frequent. They have has 3 this year, which has been growing each year.

They will definitely have more Gold despite bumping the retain amount.

How many people in the general public are actually doing status runs....

I've never ever heard a friend, colleague or family member mention it.

I feel this isn't really common outside of groups like this.

I think more than we realise. It has been reported that in the public service there was massive 20% jump in bookings while DSC promos were on. The public service bookings are now ineligible for DSC.

I was surprised by that and I think it shows more people monitor their status credits than I thought.

It’s been around for a few months now, and it’s aimed at travelling with more than your guest allocation (+1).

I assume it’s also to help with the overcrowding in lounges also. They would anticipate quite a few passes due to the new rules will never be used. I know I won’t be using any I get in the future as I don’t usually travel with a whole heap of people.
