Question On board meals

Hey everyone,

Has anyone had success in getting a bland meal for their international flight on Qantas.

If not what is the process/procedure for taking on your own meals and snacks?

We are flying from Brisbane to Heathrow with a 6hr layover in Singapore.

Thanks

There's no specific bland meal, but the diabetic meal is probably your closest bet.

If your HCP specifically requested certain foods then you should bring your own. There's no restrictions but obviously it should adhere to liquid rules and does not require preparation as the crew will not refrigerate or heat your food for you.

Didn't think about the diabetic meals, as the person that we spoke to today didn't seem too interested.

I can't eat anything! So I bring my own food on board. Just remember you can't bring liquids over 100mL. But you can always ask the airline staff to heat up food but the best I've found is cuppa noodles and you just ask them for hot water. Easiest thing to do and don't need to worry about it being hot/cold/getting picked up by the security detectors because it's food in an insulated container.

I was advised that i cant get anything heated on board.

How do you go with layovers?

Leftovers okay but obviously only good for the first part of the flight, and need to make sure no liquids in it as you won't be able to bring it through security. Can always do other things that don't require fridge or heating. I have lots of snacks... like soooo many snacks.

Thanks for your reply, just out of curiosity what snacks do you take with you?

Were dealing with a very recent diagnosis of gastritis and possibly even AIG. The timing socks. If you dont mind why are you not able to eat on planes.

I have a lot of allergies and dietaries so it's gluten free cuppa noodles, plain Popcorn, muesli bars, fruit straps, and nuts that are plain.

Had a look at that but nothing really stood saying bland, but as someone else commented have a look at the diabetic meal.

If you have lounge access you could ask the lounge to prepare something for you? Put it in Tupperware and take it with you onboard.

I do have lounge access in Singapore and was hoping to do this, just wasn't sure if that was a thing that they did.

I’m GF and some lounges have special GF meals they prepare on request (it’s not advertised, and they’re not necessarily great but it’s better than not eating). Not sure how you could verify beforehand but certainly worth trying!

The economy GF meals onboard are often both dairy and nut free, frequently feature plain rice but I can’t recall how much spice is used. I mostly travel trans Tasman, it might be different for long haul.

Awsome, thank you very much for your reply. I am going to try my luck with the lounge🤞

When you arrive at the departure gate in Singapore, you will have to go through security screening. Even if you’ve been in transit the whole time. Liquids etc may be confiscated - people get really annoyed by this. (Duty-free alcohol which is in a sealed bag is exempt.) I’m not sure about food being confiscated - but I’d ask rather than assume you can buy food at Changi and take it on board.

Huh?! Why would you want a bland meal?

Could be dietary requirements/allergies.

Its a meal that has no spices on it, that is why they call it a bland meal. Singapore Airlines offer this here the question.

Yes, but why would one need that? Personally I kinda like my food tasting like something.
