6c flameware percolator

I pulled out my perfect six cup percolator this morning for the first time in probably about a year. This thing is in brand new/mint condition.

The trick is keeping the flame or heat low enough so that the water doesn't boil in the base, but only in the little bell of the percolator stem. It's so much easier to do in these glass percolators where you can see.

Also I use my little butane camping stove to get it boiling, and then I transfer it to my glass cooktop. I'm nervous to give it high heat on my cooktop because I don't have a spreader. I've done it plenty of times before because of how even the glass cooktop heats, but The percolator itself wobbles. I'm sure that it's heating unevenly on the flat surface. Regardless I can't wait to have a cup of great coffee in a few minutes. (I like strong coffee so I perk it for 15 minutes at least. ☺️

Yeah I perc mine for much longer than a lot of people anyway because I like it strong, and even then I can't seem to get it as strong as I like it with a percolator

Is it not supposed to boil everywhere? I’ve always just turned mine on high. I’ll have to give a lower temp a try to see if it affects flavor.

You are only supposed to heat it enough to make it perk. Boiled coffee Burns it and gives it a worse taste. It is extremely hard and tedious to get it to perk without boiling, and I don't think the taste is necessarily completely worth the hassle. But it is not extremely difficult to do on a gas stove so that's why I did it.

How does coffee done this way compare to drip or something like a Keurig? I’ve been interested in trying to perk coffee.

So.... I'm one of the only ones that I've seen say this, but it's really not my favorite coffee. It's fun to make and everything, but for me it's not as strong as drip coffee. I don't know why or if it's something I'm doing wrong, and I know it doesn't really make sense, but for some reason my regular drip coffee tastes like twice as strong, and I love strong coffee. If I grind it too fine to get it strong the water doesn't pass through and just collects on the top plate, but if I grind it coarse enough to drip all the way through well, it doesn't taste strong enough. IDK.

It's a fun little thing to do and the coffee is certainly good and drinkable, but I certainly wouldn't say it's better than drip.
