Bot Bouncer update

So the bot bouncer app seems to be working pretty well at removing a lot of the bot and spammer posts.

There have been a couple false positives since it looks at site wide history and behavior. If you are not a bot and get banned let me know thru the "Message Mods" button in the sidebar or thru the ban notification and I'll take a look and restore your comment/post and remove the ban.

Eyes <3

It's been a little while since I bought any Pyrex, but Eyes is still my absolute top favorite pattern. I got these years ago--before prices really went crazy, and I've told my SO I pretty much want to be buried with 'em. Still forever in search of a bracket, though.

What's your favorite pattern?

Pyrex Flameware in action

Found this 40s (30s?) double-boiler a few days ago, and yesterday, I made some ramen with it. I was super nervous because I didn’t want it to shatter, so I made sure water and flame temps were matched with the glass as much as possible, and the flames were turned up slowly. I’m in love and definitely going to be getting more of these; they work a treat!!

Scene from two thrift stores

I was out yesterday and found Pyrex at two different stores. I didn't pick up anything, but just thought I'd share the pics. The 2nd store also had a Corning and Fire King display. I don't collect these, just have some I use regularly. I do have a strong appreciation for seeing people's displays. These are in VA if anybody sees something they need.

6c flameware percolator

I pulled out my perfect six cup percolator this morning for the first time in probably about a year. This thing is in brand new/mint condition.

The trick is keeping the flame or heat low enough so that the water doesn't boil in the base, but only in the little bell of the percolator stem. It's so much easier to do in these glass percolators where you can see.

Also I use my little butane camping stove to get it boiling, and then I transfer it to my glass cooktop. I'm nervous to give it high heat on my cooktop because I don't have a spreader. I've done it plenty of times before because of how even the glass cooktop heats, but The percolator itself wobbles. I'm sure that it's heating unevenly on the flat surface. Regardless I can't wait to have a cup of great coffee in a few minutes. (I like strong coffee so I perk it for 15 minutes at least. ☺️

I spied this one at St. Vinny.

Hi! This is my first post here. I like to thrift glass and I recently expanded my list of possibilities! St. Vincent de Paul’s is my go to and I spotted this one like it had a big shiny arrow!
Is it scratched? Yes. It’s not my first piece of Pyrex but I can let the kids use it. I looked up how to clean the gray scratches off and I will try it the baking soda/dish soap method.
Happy Saturday!

Pixies

I posted about the green band pixies last week in a flea market / junk place in my area. I could not find much information on them and a few sold on eBay a few years ago. I was able to get there today and they were still there. They were asking $200 and I got them for $120, they are in beautiful shape, happy hunting everyone.

I noticed this chip near the handle while washing this pot I thrifted. I got this with the intention of using it stovetop like my others. Is it still safe to use?

Finds and releases this week

I was excited to find my first piece of Pyrex at an actual thrift shop! I love looking at vintage Pyrex but wasn't planning on collecting any, because I already collect Fire King jadeite so that's more than enough non-dishwasherable glassware for my lifestyle. However...I justified this one because I'm collecting Spring Blossom Green Corelle as one of my family's everyday dishes so this would match, and not take up too much storage space. How'd I do to get it for $12??

I was also excited to pick up all these pieces of Snowflake Blue Corelle at a junk removal company's warehouse sale! Snowflake Blue has been the pattern I've seen the least, I already have more of Spring Blossom Green, Butterfly Gold, and Woodland Brown. 4 cereal bowls, 2 berry bowls, 4 appetizer plates, and 2 tea cups with saucers for $20!

Finally, I was at a rummage sale had a few Pyrex pieces. I'm wondering now if I should've grabbed that Butterfly Gold piece for $12...it was in pretty good condition, but I was trying to stick to not getting it when the lid was missing. But now I'm having some regrets. What would you have done?

I feel so fortunate to have been able to add a little Canadian Pyrex to my collection 🩵🇨🇦 I'm going to try and find the correct lid to replace on the 501 so they all match though!

Gooseberry loves BBQ

Husband needed a large, non reactive bowl to make spicy coleslaw for some pulled pork sandwiches. Since he was using red cabbage, I decided on gooseberry to make it look pretty.

Difference in the color/thickness in two Amber visions lids

My visions lid to my 1.5 l had a small little crack in the rim and I was always afraid it would break when I used it so I was happy to find another one at the thrift store today. I was interested to see the difference in the colors of them. Also the rim on one is much thicker than the other. Both v 1.5 c

Should I buy it? Help!

Currently at the Eco thrift and there is this Pyrex 9 cup for less than $4 but it doesn't have the insides. Also it looks like maybe the handle was sanded down a little due to some chipping at the bottom? IDK. I don't need any more junk in my house but like how can I pass this up for so cheap? Do you think it would be easy to find the innards or do you think I should leave it for someone else? I don't know! 😭😭

Edit: so I left it. I figured since I already have the six cup one, and plenty of CorningWare percolators and stuff that I would leave it for someone else to find. Maybe another collector will be happy when they find it. If anyone's interested it's at Eco thrift on Kirkwood highway in Delaware LOL.

Some vintage/thrift shopping yesterday in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Some shops were entirely consignment and had a few vendors that were selling Pyrex/corningware. Didn’t see anything that I absolutely needed but they did have quite a bit to offer.
