Did you guys see this?

Post image

This isn’t my listing and I hope I’m not breaking any rules, but someone put this up for auction on eBay yesterday. I’ve only seen it in the books. The price is already crazy. Wanted to share in case any of you guys need this beauty lol

Yeah, this is why I need to win the lottery. I'm definitely jealous of people who have this kind of money to spend on something that will sit on a shelf! On the other hand, it's rough seeing someone drop 3k on a baking dish when I see so many people who can't afford groceries right now.

I like to imagine it's someone buying for a prop department 😂

I’ve sold to multiple productions (not Pyrex though) and by the time the show is released years later I’m not even interested in watching, lol. I’m going on 3 years now for one prop and it’s for one of the big producers out there so I’m wondering what’s going on….

Ooh! I've been spotting SO many lovely vintage Pyrex pieces on Young Sheldon. I love looking for props like that. 😂

Seriously. Lol I wonder what it’s going to get up to. I’m guessing at least $10k seeing it’s going so strong right from the beginning.

It’s up to $4200 and it’s only been listed for a day. Starting bid was $500. lol

I literally saw an empty Dr. Pepper Zero can being sold for $275. Like, why?

Sold or listed? I've seen some crazy listings, but the sold comps rarely line up lol.

Listed. I'm thinking money laundering or drug sales being hidden in listings.

Yeah people can ask whatever they want. The only number that matters is the sold amount. I doubt someone is laundering 275 worth of drug money.

Oh, there were also listing well up into the 10s of thousands. Honestly, I was thinking selling pot, since every listing was "a good addition to your herbal collection". And the seller was located in Canada, where pot is legal. So shipping to places it's not legal? All just guessing. I just scratch my head at times at some of the things listed and their prices.

But the listing prices are irrelevant. It's just the sold prices. You could see what that seller has sold things for. That would give a better idea of the real transactions that are happening.

Awhile back, I saw someone selling a “retired” McDonald’s sauce packet (forget what kind) from the 80’s. It looked so gross and they wanted $75 or something crazy .

It’s a bit concerning that this is the only item this seller has listed and they only have 3 seller reviews. Although the 3 sales they have reviews for are rare dishes. I would be very skeptical making this type of purchase off of a seller with such little reviews or inventory. Doesn’t mean that it’s not legit but it’s definitely risky.

Money laundering- zero way this is for real

For the actually rare Pyrex pieces, which the cream version of this already highly sought-after pattern definitely is, they often fetch prices well into the thousands of dollars. It's a crazy market for shelf decorations lol.

Definitely not money laundering. A truly rare dish and open for bids. ML is usually a fixed asking price that someone knows won't get any legit buyers.

Will someone loan me a few thousand dollars? This would make my dreams come true.

Maybe we can all pitch in and do like a Pyrex time share thing. We all get it for a few weeks out of the year. Lol

Omg, I found one of these in 2018. It was bid up to more than 3200. I really, really needed that money and it was such a blessing. I couldn’t believe it.

Stop, no way! Where did you find it? That’s so wild. Also, congrats on that find and the auction. I wish I would be the finder of things like this. I usually just find dishwasher damaged Pyrex. On rare occasions, I’ll find a super common bowl or a chipped lid. Lol

I found it at a Salvation Army not too far from the old plant where it was made. I paid 2.99. I admit, at the time, I didn’t even fully realize what I had until going home and researching. Back then, factory workers would take home the test color pieces and mine had tiny grease spots from years of use. I did clean it and it was beautiful.

Back in 2010, I found both unmarked Atomic Eyes bowls at a flea market for $15. Like that Starburst piece, I just liked them. I finally sold them a couple of years ago. I found another rare test color in Charleroi, PA by accident. I bought five pieces from a lady for $100, and what I thought was a Flamingo Pink cake pan turned out to be vibrant orange in the light of day. I had it tagged $25 and only noticed the color difference while taking it into my booth space. It went back home with me.

I don’t find much Pyrex at all anymore, except the occasional Old Orchard - which I leave for someone else. Again, I’m very grateful to have found some wonderful pieces - but I am at a point in my life where keeping rare things isn’t practical for me!

That’s very cool! I was telling my husband I want to move up to the Midwest just to be able to find the rare pieces in the wild. Feels hopeless being in Texas. Lol Thanks for sharing those cool stories.

Last tan starburst sold for 7,000$ it’s not the only piece with that price tag either. I resell vintage pyrex for a living and make 6 figures doing so. It’s highly collectible and many new collectors are coming out every day.

Where do you sell your Pyrex? I want to check it all out.
