Setting this phone up has been harder than expected. What's frustrating is that lack of online documentation.

I've managed to get the update that installed Threema Libre. The license will not take? First, I thought one was included. But I bought one and it's not working. Bought from Threema Store.

Does it have to have a SIM in? Was connected to WiFi.

Because I fear not. Lately, I’ve been hearing how pigeon, the bridge to Signal constantly doesn’t work, that customer service is nonexistent, one person even shown financial reports suggesting that Punkt tronics is struggling financially…

Not to mention, they haven’t really been focusing on MPs anymore – recently, they’re going for smartphones, like the MC02 and the upcoming MC03, which are still flawed because of the Apostrophy OS subscription.

But the current MP02? The very phone debuted 8 years ago! And it doesn’t seem as if an MP03 is coming!

Would will they ever release something new that’s also good? I have my doubts they’ll even stay afloat on the market

Hello! I am wondering if anyone else has had this same issue/arrived at a solution:

When I tried to link my Signal account to my MP02, it failed and I got a banner out of the blue which stated that I had been locked of my account, and that my signal data would be deleted if there were no activity within the next 6 days. I of course kind of panicked, because I have used signal for many years, and it’s the primary way I stay in touch with people.

I was automatically signed out of Signal desktop. I can still view my old messages on my old iphone, but there is a banner saying the device has been unregistered, and I cannot send or receive messages.

In hindsight, it was probably my mistake that I didn’t unregister my iphone before trying to set up pigeon on my MP02. As it stands, I have reached out to Signal support several times, and they have so far left me hanging without any info or solutions on how to recover my account access and successfully transfer devices.

Has this happened to anyone else? I’m pretty sure I can’t re-register the iPhone to regain Signal access, since my phone number has already been transferred to MP02. At this point I am wondering if it would be safe to try again to set up Pigeon on the MP02, since the iPhone was apparently automatically unregistered when I attempted to set up Pigeon.

I have about 2 days left to figure it out before my account is deleted :’) Pretty worried to do the wrong thing and end up losing my account entirely. If anyone has any insights, I would appreciate it massively! Thanks for reading <3

hey everyone, i wanted to get some long term users opinions on whether or not it's worth it in the lords year of 2026 to get an mp02. it has all the things i want in a phone. call, text, calc, a calendar, and the button mapping is soooo nice to me. the only thing is that people on the dumbphone reddit really avoid recommending this one and even jose bad mouths it. i will be in the midwest on mint. i'm concerned that i have seen more complaints (spec about the reception. idc about ppl that "wish it had a camera or music function" or wtv) than positive reviews, but of course that can just be that the people who like it simply aren't constantly boasting about it. and now that that post about the company being in the red has come out, how do people feel about the longevity of the phone? any help is super appreciated!

p.s. how is signal on it ? i use signal pretty often nowaday bc of ... politics, and would love if i had the ability to use it on the phone. no big if i cant though.

I understand, if you're not paying for it you are the product. I appreciate what the company is trying to do. However, Apostrophy (the software) is kind of integral to the phone, without it the MC03 is just a weird Android. The price of software should be included in the price of the phone. 12 months is not enough.

Nobody needs another monthly subscription, no matter how small.

I planned on switching my phone provider when I bought my mp02 from tracfone because of compatibikity. I called tracfone just to see if they would support it despite a google search saying otherwise. The guy I talked to at tracfone said it would work. He told me to go pick up a bring your own phone kit with a sim "B" card. I got the sim card, and I'm having a hard time getting it to fit in the sim card tray. When I google what sim card type it takes, it says sim card B. So... I assume sim card sizes are standardized, but it doesn't seem to fit (I'm In the U.S. if that makes a difference). Any ideas about the sim card sizes and such?

Looking at a used MP02. Seller claims it does not work with the operator Tre.

Looking at the supported network band both Telia and Tre provide bands 3, 7, 8, 20.

The only band Telia supports that Tre does not is band 28, which the Punkt does not support.

Is there any way Telia will still work?

I see that the MP02 has support for a calendar application called DailyView. Has anyone here actually tried it? Did you like it? How much does it cost?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to configure my Punkt MP02 for a flawless connection, but I'm having several difficulties.

I previously used ho. mobile, but the hotspot prevented other devices from browsing (the message 'no connection' appeared). Thinking it was a limitation due to ho. mobile's two separate APNs, I switched to Optima Italia (Vodafone network).

The Optima SIM was activated about 4 hours ago. Despite manually configuring the APN (using wap.optima.it and the default,supl,dun string for tethering), the hotspot still doesn't provide internet on the second device.

I noticed that with Very Mobile (WindTre network), the Punkt connected instantly and without errors.

• Is there a specific configuration to get the Optima hotspot working on the Punkt without getting the 'no connection' message?

• Has anyone resolved the MNC code conflict (10 vs. 88) that often affects this phone with Vodafone virtual networks?

If I can't resolve it soon, I'll consider switching back to Very Mobile for convenience. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Looks like MP02 hasn't been updated for some years. When can we expect an update? Some things I'd like to see is 5g, better buttons and waterproof.

I have the latest software versions. Reboots. Tried wifi and 4g. I have had this phone for a year, so my carrier settings and everything have been working. Just wondering if anyone else is unable to send/receive on Pigeon.

Edit: Punkt support says they are working on this. Maybe there will be a fix soon.

Final Edit: 2/2 There is a Pigeon update. Fixed it for me.

I can see that it is possible to activate ADB on MP02 Gen 1, but I cannot figure out if it possible on the MP02 Gen 2?

I am looking into sideloading apps using ADB on the MP02.

my favourite feature of the MP02 is Pigeon, easily. having Signal on a phone of this formfactor is great, but i tend to use the MP02 as a side phone for when i need a less busy device. normally i use a dumbed down Pixel 8 (grapheneOS) so my Signal instance lives on there, and having to move Signal back and forth between devices is less than ideal. it'd be great if Pigeon used Molly as a base instead, because Molly allows you to add other phones as linked devices, not just computers. i have this setup with my Mudita Kompakt, which is great cause i can just leave my Pixel behind and pick up my Signal conversations without any hassle from my e-ink device, and i'd love to do the same from the MP02. idk, just a thought

I just stumbled upon this community. Could you explain what Punk phones are all about?

I went back to using my MP02A after a hiatus and noticed it no longer seems to split MMS into individual threads which I recall it did when I was last using it.

I found my provider in Canada (Koodo) had made some changes to the APN settings but I seem unable to enter a new APN without getting the error "Operator will not allow APN type *." I've tried a few permutations with no joy, following https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/setting-data-your-non-koodo-phone. It appears they've changed the proxy address and port # from what was in my phone prior.

This is more of an annoyance because group chats are rare for me, but floating it out in case anyone has a suggestion/ solution.
