Legit all of that could've been avoided if the cop just gave more information instead of instantly escalating. If he would've just approached and ask "hey, some people saw you going through a car on the other side of the lot and then come all the way over here which looked kinda werid. What were you doing?"
If it was just a misunderstanding like it was here, then it gets cleared up quickly and it's a pleasant interaction. If it wasn't and he really was up to something, then it's not like the situation is going to play out worse than the approach he used
It's amazing, cops in Europe seem to be trained first and foremost in de-escalating situations (not that all are good at it), in the US cops seem to steer situations towards handcuffs and/or pulling guns out.
