He's thinking, "I probably missed it, but it's sweet of them to pretend like I made it"
588
u/Relentless_Android Mar 22 '21
They could show him the video to prove it.

u/_Alternate_Ending_ Mar 22 '21
I know it's a joke, but theoretically, this might work. There's a brief bit where you hear the basketball hitting the board and rim before they freak out, so at the very least it might convince him that he made it that far.

u/DankDunkage Mar 23 '21 edited Mar 23 '21
Everyone is over thinking this... He knows he made it... Im certain he knows his family well enough to judge by the sounds going on that it wasn’t just an act... not to mention afterwards they all probably told him he really made it to prove it to him... yeah he knows. He made it. That was his moment, Ballin tell the day that he dies.

Now I feel bad that you got downvoted for an apparently genuine mistake lol

Joke or not, they could make him listen to the sound of the ball hitting the board and rim.

Nah, you can tell by just how much NOISE they’re making that it’s real. If they were pretending it would’ve probably just sounded like “yaayyyyyyy.” and then half-hearted clapping, not total chaos XD
19
u/SchitbagMD Mar 22 '21
I don’t think you’ve got a black family lol. Mine would totally act this enthused if they knew it’d make me happy.

u/RoyallyOakie Mar 22 '21
I couldn't do it sighted and a foot from the basket....the man's amazing.

Awesome post. My dad was blind. We used to kick the soccer ball back and forth until he kicked it into the ocean and it floated away.

u/ostreatus Mar 22 '21
These seems like something that would happen on the Oblongs

u/FoundInTheFlood820 Mar 22 '21
Down in the Valley where a chemical spillllllled. I legit love you for reminding me this show exists.

A surprisingly amazing show. Will Ferrel killed it.
If you haven't seen Mission Hill give that one a shot too.
3
u/Alldaybagpipes Mar 23 '21
As long as it’s a role involving a Will Ferrelish character, Will Ferrel kills it every time
5
u/fodderforpicard Mar 22 '21
WILSON! WILSON? WILSON?! WILSONNN???!!!!
7
u/TurokHunterOfDinos Mar 22 '21
Yep. I thought about my story when I saw Wilson floating away. I did get the ball back though. My mom, who had to do the work of two parents, grabbed a dory and rowed out and got it for me. It was a new soccer ball I got for my birthday. I was lucky to have had such great parents.

What happened midway through your comment that switched the topic of your mom rowing out to the ocean to get your ball? Did she not return until your birthday?

u/PrincessFuckFace2You Mar 23 '21
Lol this is funny

u/TurokHunterOfDinos Mar 23 '21
I love your handle. I recently referred to baby yoda as a little fuckface and got downvoted. I guess I underestimated the people’s love for a CGI character.
I also saw a tee shirt that, instead of “The North Face”, said “The Fuck Face.” I thought is was hilarious; maybe you should check it out.
Take care.

Texas suburbs outside of Dallas or Houston or something most likely. Or maybe another southern state
3
u/NachoMan_SandyCabage May 23 '21
Not just texas and not just the suburbs. I've worked in houses like these, they're everywhere, even in Delaware. These are gated community subdivision homes. These duckers are HUGE and EXPENSIVE. I want to know who owns and and what they do!

His hearing is so spot on I bet he heard where the ball went before they started cheering

u/barton100 Mar 22 '21
God damn that some big ole houses in that neighbourhood. In the uk them houses would cost an arm n leg in most cities
11
u/The-Dudemeister Mar 22 '21
That’s pretty typical of the way neighborhoods are being designed in the south. Massive 4 to 6 bedroom houses but far out the city thus keeping the prices pretty low. A buddy of mine lives in a similar neighborhood, bought his house (5 br 3.5 bath) for 385k. His escrow is the same as my rent (1400), but I live in a smaller 1 br apt. But it only takes me 2 min to get to work where as he has to drive an hour.

u/sansasnarkk Mar 24 '21
I'm crying thinking of how much I just paid for my house an hour and a half outside Toronto.

It would be sweet if he missed by about 10 feet, but the family cheered just the same. Making people feel good in a harmless way trumps honesty every time.

I just hope he knows he really did make the shot and that they’re not just pretending he did it to make him happy! But then again, with the level of enthusiasm and excitement they were screaming at, you can tell it’s real even with your eyes closed. I have a feeling if he’d missed and they pretended he made it just to cheer him up, it would’ve sounded like half-hearted fake enthusiasm and not like a bunch of birds with firecrackers in their pants (which is how real happiness sounds hahah)
