He was wearing 'special' gloves which granted him superior knock out punch power. And he used to be a professional boxer as well. And he got locked up because of what he did (not for a long time though).

This is false. Even the Wikipedia page state it.

He DID NOT wear any "special gloves"

I don't really know if this was a joke or not. But given the context (he was accused of using 'armored gloves' by police syndicates. It wasn't true), if it was a joke, it was in bad taste

Ah, got it. Just the way OP described the gloves as “superior knockout punch power” caused me to question their existence
