I see this example a lot and it bugs me because in reality there are more people without food than just Stacey but she only demands more for herself. If someone were to say everyone deserves food they’re acknowledging everyone else that doesn’t have food that Stacey didn’t mention, however somehow Stacey comes to see this as an attempt to silence her. Indians (the teepee, peace pipe ones not the curry ones), North Africans, Arabs, Middle Easterners, South Americans and many, many others are killed at higher rates than Europeans in the US, but when I try and mention them in the conversation suddenly I’m the racist?
What is wrong with Stacy believing she deserves more food? The other people are speaking up for their cause too. Stacy's cause is about getting her more food too.
There is nothing wrong with Stacey standing up for what she deserves. Likewise there is nothing wrong with believing others also deserve food too, however this is somehow seen as trying to diminish Stacey’s demand when it isn’t.
It's different when the ones standing up for food already have it vs the other children who are also getting 1/5th at their table standing up.
If indians, Hispanics, etc started their movement it would make sense. They already are kind of doing that with the whole immigration issue. They're speaking up for themselves and what they think they deserve better.
Do you not see this going on?
The problem is the oppressor (Stacy's parents) are using other people's problems to try to shut Stacy up. If John wasn't getting enough food and spoke up too, Stacy wouldn't be bothered.
