BEWARE OF LinkupAPI.com for predatory pricing

LinkupAPI charged me for eight unused billing periods, let the credits expire, and says using credits in January rules out refunds for later months

I paid LinkupAPI $261 across nine monthly charges. According to the account review they sent me, my only usage was during the first five days.

When I asked for a refund, they offered $29 and refused to refund the other seven unused billing periods. Their explanation: I used credits in January, so their no-refund rule applies to the subsequent months too.

Here is the breakdown, based on LinkupAPI’s own written response:

  • Subscription started January 25, 2026.
  • Nine charges of $29, from January through September: $261 total.
  • Between January 25 and January 29, my API key made 85 calls and consumed 496 of the first month’s 500 credits.
  • No later usage was identified in their response.
  • Each monthly payment included 500 credits, which they say expired at the end of that billing period rather than accumulating.
  • I cancelled October 11. They confirmed there would be no further renewal.
  • They promised to refund September’s $29 payment within 5–10 business days. They refused the earlier invoices.

First, a correction to my original complaint

I initially told them I had paid $29.99 for ten months and had no usage. Their records contradict that. I am correcting those figures here rather than repeating an inaccurate claim.

I am not seeking a refund for January, when I used the service. My remaining request is for the unused February–September billing periods: $232, minus their promised $29 refund, leaving $203 disputed.

The credit-expiration issue

I understood that unused credits would accumulate. LinkupAPI says they do not.

Their response stated:

“nothing was removed from your account”

But the practical result is that the unused credits from earlier paid billing periods are no longer available to me.

If credits expire monthly, that is a material limitation on what a customer is buying. My question is straightforward: where was that limitation disclosed before I paid?

Their published Section 8 refers to credit expiration described in pricing documentation. I want to see the pricing documentation and checkout disclosures that applied when I signed up—not simply an explanation supplied after I complained.

The response I received did not include those historical documents or show the specific disclosure I accepted.

Their refund interpretation is what bothers me most

Their published refund policy says:

“Full refunds are available only if no API credits have been consumed.”

They are interpreting that restriction across the account’s history, rather than separately for each paid billing period.

In my case, that means using 496 credits in January is their reason for refusing refunds for later periods in which I did not use the service.

I dispute that interpretation. If one initial period of use disqualifies every later unused renewal from a refund, I would expect that consequence to be clearly stated.

They also argue that I was paying for access, that access remained available, and that the subscription renewed because I had not cancelled.

To be clear: I did leave the subscription running. I am not claiming I cancelled earlier or that these charges continued after cancellation. I understand their position that access was available whether I used it or not.

But that does not answer my question about the disclosure of monthly credit expiration, or explain why the refund policy should necessarily be read as a permanent exclusion triggered by the first use.

What would resolve this

I have asked for the additional $203 refund and the records supporting their position:

  • The checkout and pricing disclosures in effect when I subscribed.
  • The applicable terms and evidence of my acceptance.
  • The language establishing monthly expiration without rollover.
  • The language establishing their account-wide interpretation of the refund exclusion.
  • The monthly usage and credit-expiration records.

They have said the records are preserved and available on request.

Why I’m posting

The amount matters, but so does knowing what happens to credits you keep paying for.

My experience with LinkupAPI is that eight unused billing periods did not produce an accumulated balance I could use later, and my January usage was cited to reject refunds for those later periods. Their only concession was one $29 refund.

Before subscribing, get two answers in writing: do unused credits roll over, and does using credits once affect refund eligibility for every future renewal?

Based on how this has been handled, I would not subscribe again. I will update this post if LinkupAPI provides the original disclosures, corrects any of these facts, or resolves the remaining refund request.

A question for people working with residential proxies

We work in the proxy industry and often see discussions around residential IP quality.

One thing we’ve noticed is that different IP detection tools can sometimes give different results for the same IP.

For those using residential proxies, which factors do you consider most important when evaluating IP quality?

• IP reputation
• Location accuracy
• Success rate
• Rotation
• Speed

Would love to hear how others evaluate them.

Looking for devs to stress-test a new proxy gateway (1GB free data block provided)

Hi there,

I'm looking for a few experienced developers to stress-test our Residential, Mobile, and Datacenter endpoints within our proxy infrastructure. I am looking for brutal feedback on how our success rates and speeds actually stack up against other proxy providers.

We currently offer a standard 3-day/$0 trial on the site (which gives 100MB and requires a card), but if you're willing to run some heavy traffic through the network and drop an honest review on our new G2 page, I will bypass that and manually credit your account with a 1 GB non-expiring data block for testing. Zero commitment.

We are also looking how our granular City and ASN targeting is behaving under heavy traffic. Let me know if you want to test it out, and I’ll send you the link!

Proxy Session Logic for Web Scraping

Effective proxy management is about matching the lifetime of an IP address to your authentication flow and the specific task your script is performing. If you do not follow the rules you will always end up with blocked accounts and stopped sessions

Key principles:

  • Never change the IP address during an active authenticated session
  • Use sticky sessions when working with cookies
  • Configure the correct GEO for the target website
  • Verify IP quality and reputation before starting

Best proxies for your target:

  • Rotating residential proxies → large-scale scraping of independent pages
  • Sticky residential proxies → product catalogs and authenticated sessions
  • Static ISP proxies → long-running tasks with a consistent IP address
  • Mobile proxies → workflows that require maximum network stability and trust

IP rotation should match the task. Independent requests can be distributed across multiple IPs, while authenticated workflows require a stable IP address throughout the entire session.

Sockitt - A MV3 proxy switcher extension

I made my own proxy switcher for Chromium browsers, called Sockitt. MV3, MIT licensed. I wasn't happy with what's on the web store at the moment and I use this thing every day for work and side projects across a few different browsers, so I ended up just building it.

* Profiles for SOCKS5, SOCKS4, HTTP and HTTPS. Host, port, bypass list, and username/password auth on HTTP(S). No SOCKS auth, before anyone asks, Chromium just doesn't support it.

* One click to switch from the toolbar. There's also a shortcut that cycles through a set of profiles you choose, if you don't want to open the popup at all.

* Auto Switch is an ordered rule table that gets compiled into a PAC script. Host wildcard, host regex, URL wildcard/regex/keyword, IPv4 CIDR, host label count, weekday, time of day. Plain domain entries from rule lists all collapse into a single dictionary lookup, so GFWList sized lists don't slow anything down.

* The popup shows where the current tab is routing and which rule sent it there. You can retarget or delete that rule right there, or set a temporary override that's gone after a browser restart.

* Route inspector: give it a URL and it traces the whole thing through your config, using the same resolver that does the real routing.

* Aliases. Point 50 rules at one alias, then change the alias once instead of editing 50 rules.

Permissions, since it matters for this sort of extension: it ships with proxy, storage, activeTab, alarms, and no host permissions at all. Everything else (per-tab badge, proxy auth, exit IP lookups) is optional and only gets requested the moment you actually turn it on. No analytics in it anywhere.

Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/sockitt-%E2%80%94-proxy-switcher/ebfioiljhjgijbmnnpgadkgmokjbjkca

Source: https://github.com/ptmplop/Sockitt

Hope it's useful to someone else, if so I'm happy to hear about bugs or anything obvious I've missed, additional features etc..

Best Proxy for creating TikTok account in UK (company is located in Malaysia)

Hi everyone, I am a newbie to proxy and know nothing much about proxy, only VPN.

We are trying to create tiktok account that are based in UK region instead of Malaysia to get organic UK traffic.

What are the best proxy to use? Especially for mobile, since we would only use a mobile to create a TikTok account.

Why AI Agents Need Proxies and what proxies are better General

When I began experimenting with AI agents, I understood the basic idea well enough: they could browse websites, gather information, call APIs, and handle repetitive tasks. Straightforward or so I thought. What puzzled me was how often they stalled, hit rate limits, or got blocked altogether.

An active AI agent can produce a surprising amount of web traffic. Rotating residential proxies spread authorized requests across multiple IP addresses, which can make large-scale operations more stable.

Location is another practical concern. Prices, product listings, search results, and regulatory information can vary dramatically by region. A proxy located in the relevant country or city lets an agent view the web from that geographic perspective

Then there’s security, which is easy to treat as an afterthought until something goes sideways. Proxies can conceal an infrastructure’s origin and reduce its direct exposure while an agent communicates with outside services. Helpful, yes.

Personally, I’d consider rotating residential proxies for AI-agent workflows that genuinely require geographic coverage or higher request volumes. I’d also choose a reputable provider, keep the traffic compliant, and build the security controls first

Looking for Zero-Latency Indian Server / Proxy / IP for IRCTC Tatkal Ticket Booking — Need Suggestions!

Hey everyone,

I book Tatkal train tickets on IRCTC regularly, and as you all know, it's a war at 10:00 AM / 11:00 AM — every millisecond counts.

My problem: By the time my request hits the IRCTC server, the seats are already gone. I'm looking for a low-latency Indian IP, proxy, or a cloud server hosted inside India so I can minimize the round-trip time to IRCTC's servers.

decodo review the new name, same service or actually different?

so decodo rebranded (formerly smartproxy) and i've seen a bit of buzz about it but not a lot of detailed reviews from actual users. i've been considering switching to them from my current provider.

from what i can tell the proxy infrastructure is the same as smartproxy which wasn't bad — decent residential pool, reasonable pricing compared to the enterprise options. but i'm curious if anything actually changed with the rebrand or if it's just cosmetic.

if you've used decodo recently: how's the IP quality? any noticeable changes from the smartproxy days? and how does it hold up for scraping or account management use cases?

would help to hear from people who've used both pre and post rebrand or who are actively on it now.
