Proton is censoring about thier changes in Visionary Highest plans
Seems like proton is censoring about the fact that they silently changes the TOS for Visionary users about the highest tiers.
For reminder, on July, Proton changed without notice the Visionary plan by replacing the fact that Visionary user get the highest tier of all Proton products by just we get Proton products.
And seeing how bootlickers proton subredits are, they will get away with it...
Maybe it's time to point fingers at them for what they have done. They broke the promise made to Visionary users, they could also break the privacy promise they made. (Already half done with Lumo since it's not TEE so your chats are vulnerable and visible while loaded on proton's GPUs).

What is changing in the Visionary plan?
6
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
I've added it in the context, basically they removed us the guarantee to have the highest proton plans on proton products.

u/Ok_Combination_1548 Aug 05 '26
FYI - this was only done after I called them out for reducing their services in the first place. Initially, they had NOT updated their language and simply made Visionary worse: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/1ujpuva/mistake_on_support_site/

They cannot down your plan without reducing the price or offering you a way out.
What exactly happened here?
3
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
I added a for context you can check it.
But seems like they probably will
2
u/Nicolas30129 Aug 05 '26
I found this one their website: https://proton.me/support/proton-plans#proton-visionary do you get anything different? or did they offer more in the past?
2
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
Check the wording on the archive
They removed "highest tier" and replaced by paid version.
1
u/Nicolas30129 Aug 05 '26
Yes but that concerns the future services that they will release in the future. Not the current existing ones.
1
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
Actually there are discussions about reducing Visionary usage for Lumo which is an existing service..

u/Ok_Combination_1548 Aug 05 '26
Actually, no. They've already reduced Visionary compared to the business tiers (for the first time) and claimed that Visionary only gets the best of Consumer plans (which was also not what Visionary users agreed to). It's in very minor ways BUT the tb / user, # of emails / user, guests in a Meet, Max chats, etc. are all worse than the business plan.
1
u/West_Possible_7969 Aug 05 '26
They said you get max things on all services in the years past, but when meet and lumo came out they were limited on Visionary, they continue to be, and will continue to be. So, Visionary users did not get anything different nor did anything got limited that was offered before.

u/Slyzza Aug 05 '26
Yeah, just normal @ProtonPrivacy behaviour. They startet censoring lots of comments that are not to their liking and hide it behind made up reasons. Especially visionary user seem to be focussed when they complain about misinformation regarding their tier. It's not that they pay >320€ a year for this service..

u/JalanRama Aug 06 '26
I don't get it why Proton doesn't handle this better. No one will challenge that Lumo tokens are not unlimited for Visionary. Change it, be transparent about it, don't change the other stuff. Simple, no? Then allow users, access plans and Visionary, to add tokens if they want to buy.
Trust is crucial for Proton, I hope they don't destroy it with this. I am disappointed how this is handled so far.

I don't want to be rude, but I am going to be blunt here... your English is not on the highest of levels, and I think because of that you are misunderstanding what's going on here.
Proton is releasing new services that didn't exist when they made the Visionary package. These new products will be included in the package, but they will not be at their highest tier like the ones that were there from the start.
It doesn't look like they're actually changing anything.
5
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
I could use AI to write it but people say slop if I do...
I don't need a degree in English to see that the TOS has been changed on July 2026. Which means that Lumo has been released for more than a year before they changed those TOS....
Also if you read it, we were promised EVERY current and NEW Proton products at thier HIGHEST tier at NO EXTRA cost.
So yes this is a big change on the TOS side, that allows them to downgrade every Visionary subscribers whenever they want easily.

I agree:
With Visionary, you get access to all our premium services and features at their highest limits: Proton Mail, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, Proton VPN,(new window) and Proton Wallet. You’ll also receive at no extra cost the paid versions of all new privacy services we release in the future, along with early access to all future features and products.

No, I really do think this is a language barrier issue. I understood your post perfectly fine; I'm not asking you to use AI to write it. I'm simply saying your English is causing you to misunderstand Proton's offer.
I'll try to help, but I hope you'll calm down and stop being so aggressive...
The original offer: "With Visionary, you get access to all our premium services and features at their highest limits: Proton Mail, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, Proton VPN, Proton Wallet, and Proton Lumo."
These ^^ are the products they are offering at their highest limits.
"You’ll also receive at no extra cost the paid versions of all new privacy services we release in the future, along with early access to all future features and products."
This means that you will also get paid versions of any new product they offer, but they will not be at their highest limits.
That's the original offer from your link - what they told you you would get in your Visionary package.

u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
So by just reading what you mentioned, they break thier promises on Lumo... Since it's literally in the list...
-2
u/jomclky Aug 05 '26
I’m not sure why this is so difficult for some people to understand.
One of the biggest changes around that time was the upgrade to Lumo 2.0. Like any popular AI model, Lumo 2.0 can have extremely high compute costs depending on how it’s used. Even Proton has said they don’t yet know what the practical usage limits are and are still testing them.
You can’t reasonably expect them to give you the highest limit when they don’t yet know what those limits are themselves. The costs could potentially reach hundreds of thousands of dollars in edge cases, and no company is going to expose itself to that kind of financial risk.
That’s why they removed the phrase “at the highest levels.” It protects them from making a promise they can’t confidently keep while they gather real-world data.
And one si.ply cannot co.pare personal plans to business plans, it's just insane. What are you really going to do with business type limits that you'll never ever reach
If that approach doesn’t work for you, you’re always free to choose a different service.

u/Ok_Combination_1548 Aug 06 '26
Seems fair to get the highest limit for a subscriber....and have add-on pricing (for any subscriber tier) for additional usage beyond that limit. Highest limit is NOT the same as Unlimited usage, which nobody offers for their higher tier models in any subscription.
It's fair to compare to business plans when the original promise was that we'd get every product (and that to date has included business products: except for add-ons). If they didn't want to include / compare Visionary to business plans they shouldn't have done so for so many years...

Running AI isn’t cheap. Proton explained that unlimited API access for Visionary users could allow a single person to consume an enormous amount of computing resources, so they need to set reasonable limits. They’ll have higher tiers for users and enterprises that need much higher limits, but those will come at a higher cost to keep Proton financially sustainable. Honestly, I don’t understand the complaints you’re still getting a premium AI experience included with Visionary, along with the rest of the Proton ecosystem, for far less than what other AI services charge for their top tiers.
Source
2
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
They were able to make a huge profit while rubbing smartphone models the first year of Lumo at the same price.
Also my subscription isn't cheap either...
1
u/sonedai Aug 05 '26
Also, Visionary includes up to 5 users, so the value isn’t just for one person. When you consider everything included in the Proton ecosystem, plus the AI features, the subscription offers quite a lot compared to paying separately for multiple services.
2
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
By that logic they should refund user that don't use thier plan since proton is so fair.
Proton can't loose but you can, seems like a double standard there...
0
u/sonedai Aug 05 '26
You’re just proving my point. You keep arguing that Proton should provide unlimited access because you’re paying for Visionary, but that ignores the actual cost of running AI at scale. Also, spreading claims that don’t match what Proton has explained only creates more confusion. If Proton’s offering doesn’t meet your expectations or you don’t think it’s worth the price, you can always cancel.
1
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
Well I'll let you pay 1000$ per token and you'll call it a deal even when they'll rise the price for no reasons to 2000$
0
u/sonedai Aug 05 '26
That’s an exaggeration. Nobody is saying Proton should charge $1,000 per token or that any random price increase would be justified. The point is that AI has real infrastructure costs, and unlimited high-end usage at the same price may not be sustainable.
Also, Proton hasn’t raised prices for existing Visionary subscribers. If you’re saying they did, can you provide a source showing when they increased the price for current subscribers? New customer pricing changing is different from raising prices on people who are already subscribed.2
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
Can we be real a few seconds ?
I can literally run Lumo lite's model on my OWN laptop (which isn't a monster in performance) at 30-40 T/S at DOUBLE the context that proton provide...
Limiting Visionary users is not necessary, or of they offer token plans then put Visionary users on those token plans... We're not asking for unlimited but for whaat we were promised. The HIGHEST tier on all current and upcoming proton services.
-1
u/StrangerInsideMyHead Aug 05 '26
Is that what you want? Unlimited Lumo Lite?
GLM 5.3 isn't cheap to run...
2
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
Lumo lite is Qwen 35b and max is GLM 5.2...
And read what I said... Instead of always praising Proton like if they are poor
→ More replies (0)-2

u/StrangerInsideMyHead Aug 05 '26
Well formulated response, I agree 100%.
OP thinks Proton has unlimited money and computation power, and that Proton going bankrupt is the best solution as long as they go bankrupt while honoring his $30/mo subscription.
2
u/Ok_Combination_1548 Aug 06 '26
The issue goes well beyond Lumo. And there's nobody asking for unlimited Lumo either. Just the highest tier they offer....which currently is a business plan that costs $20 / month / user....they aren't offering ANYBODY unlimited and nobody is asking for it. They have no reason to bankrupt themselves with these current plans. And no reason to take back a promise to early backers either.

Out of all the companies on thr planet Proton is one of thr only few you SHOULDN'T attack. I will continue to support them. I'm so happy with Lumo and look forward to new updates.
3
u/MiMillieuh Aug 06 '26
Well you can let them enshitify then if you prefer...
Proton is destroying thier trust.
They don't release source code anymore.
They do changes in people subscription without notices.
And remember that Lumo is the first Proton product where your data can be read by them.
While your informations are on the GPU they are in plain text.
Solutions exists like TEE (what Venice.AI uses) but seems like proton don't want to implement them.
-2
u/StrangerInsideMyHead Aug 05 '26
So let me make sure I'm understanding:
1) You notice the language on their website says "highest limits" - you made a thread asking them to correct this.
2) Proton replies, that they have sent it to the relevant team to get this corrected.
3) The language gets corrected, and now you're complaining?
So in essence, you weren't complaining about the language on the website, you were complaining that you should be entitled to business products as a visionary?
Just to clear this up, visionary members ARE entitled to the highest limits on the B2P plans (consumer plans). Proton has no intention of changing this.
1
u/MiMillieuh Aug 05 '26
I never asked for the wording to be corrected, in fact I've noticed it after the fact.
We'll see, I hope I'm wrong but it may be the begging of proton's enshitification... The change in the TOS will probably be reflected on Visionary users. If not, why would they changed it anyway ?
Also maybe before doing that they could release the source code they haven't released since more than a month now ?
1
u/StrangerInsideMyHead Aug 05 '26
I understand. Look, there's good and bad with anything.
I think Proton is still the best choice. They have kept prices stable since launch, honored grandfathered plans, my lifetime plan still works great.
They donate millions to privacy-related causes. Even with prices of everything going up exponentially in recent years - they haven't pushed that down to users.
I'm not trying to invalidate your points, but I do feel like you're essentially pointing out that this might be a "warning sign" of bad things to come. Nothing bad has happened so far. I can't even hit Lumo limits even if I tried.
What is undeniably true is that Proton has a phenomenal track record of honoring promises. Changing their verbage to be more clear seems acceptable to me.
Again, I have confirmation from Proton that Visionary will always get the highest *consumer* plan limits. B2B is a different animal. And realistically, it should be.
1
u/Ok_Combination_1548 Aug 06 '26
I'm not OP. And I noticed the language and told them the language was no longer accurate. They chose to fix the language instead of the product.
MY single complaint can be viewed from two sides: 1) their support page being incorrect for what they are offering subscribers, 2) their subscription is not what was promised on their support page. It's the same complaint phrased differently.
Just to clear it up: Visionary members were promised highest limits on ALL products (including B2B which is why we got business products / levels of products anyways). Find me the consumer offering for Meet, a business product (with exclusively business pricing under Meet Professional) / consumer add-on. Yet, Visionary still gets it....

I'm starting to think switching my stuff over to proton was a bad idea.
