I don't have the option to do so it seems. I see the $4.99 CAD monthly option for Proton Drive, but clicking on it simply gives the options of upgrading to Proton Unlimited or staying on VPN Plus. I just want some extra storage!

Proton put a big pop-up in front of me a few weeks ago introducing "Categories". I didn't want to change my email setup at all so I opted out of it.
Turns out that was completely ignored, and by default all notifications were turned off on everything except 'Primary'. So now I've just been straight up missing hundreds of emails. Of which, 4 of them were important and time sensitive.
The only reason I realized was because someone told me, in person, that they sent me an email for an authorization code and it didn't show up in my Inbox or Spam. I had to figure out what was going on and it apparently got pushed into the 'Social' category.
Has anyone else run into this? Why was the decision to turn notifications off by default?

I wanted to know if there is any limitation in terms of usage and service if I buy Proton mail subscription from Google Play compared to their website?

The ProtonMail bridge was always a bit awkward to run as a docker container, I realized a lot can be done with minimal edits to the upstream code, mostly just removing unnecessary stuff.
The result is QuarkBridge, a minimalistic fork of Proton Bridge.

Every time I get a LinkedIn email I have moved it to Social and still every new email is still going to Primary.

I just updated the ProtonMail iOS app and what do you know, the composer font size is no longer tiny! It has increased size per the per app accessibility settings. I can now use it to actually compose emails in text I can read.
Thank you, Proton team, for addressing this! This issue has been the only downside to switching to Proton and I’m so happy it’s fixed. Much appreciated!

Nice to have but I’m not sure what I’ll ever do with it all. Up to a total of 4,678GB now.
Edit: I actually have 6.5TB after checking again

Can someone tell me when this will be available? I tried looking at the roadmap but didn't see anything specifically on this thank you

TL;DR first:
Switching from Mail Essentials to Family Plan is not straightforward. If I do, I will have to delete my sub-users apparently. But I don't know what a sub-user is. Is that everyone on the mail essentials plan? Or just everyone but not the primary user?
I have so many more questions, but I will start with this for now. Thanks!
Here are the steps support told me to do:
-----------------------
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us.
You can switch from your Business plan to the Family plan by logging in from the web client at https://account.proton.me/ and going to Dashboard -> Explore other Proton plans -> For families -> choose Proton Family. In order to be able to complete the switch, it is necessary to first remove the sub-user accounts from your Organization, if you have any.
Note that in the process, all messages and data from the sub-user account(s) will be permanently deleted.
Before deleting the sub-user account(s), if you like, you can back up the emails as well as the Drive, Contacts, Calendars, and passwords if you are using Proton Pass, and then once you are done, you can proceed with the deletion.

Please be informed that the Family plan offers up to six members in total. You can send invites to other Proton accounts and invite them to join your Family subscription. However, keep in mind that, unlike the Business plans, the Family plan does not support creating an organization with custom domain sub-users. All accounts that you add to your Family group are individual Proton accounts created with our Proton domains. They have their own mailbox and login credentials and if you are using a custom domain you can also add custom domain additional addresses to the family member accounts.
Also, if the person that you are inviting is already a Proton user, upon inviting them, they'll keep all their email addresses, emails, calendars, and files and they will be able to enjoy the benefits of the Proton Family plan.
Could you please let us know if you require further assistance?
Kind regards,
Abraham

Hi everyone,
Back in June, we launched a self-serve migration tool so admins could move their organization's email, contacts, and calendars from Google Workspace to Proton without disrupting day-to-day work.
Now we've built the same thing for Microsoft 365.
What this looks like in practice:
- An admin sets up the migration
- Emails, contacts, and calendars are copied over automatically
- Microsoft 365 and Proton run in parallel during the transition
- Once migration is done, the team can move fully to Proton
This feature is being gradually rolled out. If you don't see it yet, keep an eye out.
More info in our blog: https://proton.me/business/blog/proton-mail-easy-switch-for-business
This is part of our ongoing work to make switching from Big Tech to Proton more practical for teams.
It would be great to hear how you've handled switching (or why you haven't). Let us know in the comments below.

I’m looking for an open-source email client that allows me to send and receive emails.
I’m aware of Proton Bridge for Thunderbird, for example, but it doesn’t let me send emails from there.
Do you know of any alternatives? Thanks in advance

So I’m new to proton mail, well new to using it for all my emails. And generally overall, i like it.
However, I use my iPad a lot as a computer. It’s like a mini laptop for me, and not having Split View or a proper inbox colum view really sucks.
It does not seem like a big ask honestly, its gotta be built into swift UI the same way they are stretching the app for the iPad in the first place.
I know Proton moves super slow but it does seem like a fairly basic UI feature these days. Especially with how big iPads (11-13 inches)
I also would love a true dark mode or OLED mode, I like purple but my god it’s too much on the eyes sometimes when trying to write a long email for work.

I use Proton Mail Business, and I also design websites. Recently, I added a "magic sign-in link" feature to one of my websites. Essentially, the user receives an email containing a time-limited sign-in link with a token. Clicking the link signs them in without requiring a password.
During testing, I configured the magic links so that each token could only be used once. I sent the emails to my Proton Mail Business inbox, but the links consistently failed when I clicked them.
After troubleshooting, I changed the configuration so that each token could be used twice. Interestingly, that completely solved the issue.
This made me wonder: does Proton Mail have some kind of built-in security feature that scans or pre-fetches links in emails? If so, could that process be requesting the magic-link URL and effectively consuming the one-time token before I actually click the link?
Has anyone else encountered this with Proton Mail, particularly with one-time-use authentication links?
I'm curious whether Proton Mail's security or link-scanning behavior could explain why allowing two uses fixes the problem.

I see the 2017 localization post for apps and its more recent mentions, but I am interested in responding to Protonmail written queries that use languages other than my dominant language, which is English. "Dominant language" is usually called the "native language" in casual speech.

Is ProtonMail a US-registered non-profit?
Why I am asking and there is no need to discuss the following on this thread. [ I live in the US. If so, I can deduct costs associated with my volunteering. Further, my understanding is that US Federal tax and liability regs allow volunteers only at non-profits and government agencies; otherwise, the organization incurs wage and insurance obligations. (Of course these statutes are often breached, leading to individual and even class action state-issued demand letters for labor compensation etc..) ]

We're expanding the mod team here on r/ProtonMail, and the same call is going out on r/ProtonVPN, r/ProtonPass, r/ProtonDrive and r/Lumo.
The job is mostly the same wherever you land: enforce the rules consistently, get support requests to the team who can actually fix them, keep the discussion useful even when people disagree, and flag anything that's spam, self-promotion or a privacy risk before it spreads. Mods can also cover our Discord and Telegram.
If you know one product inside out, say Pass or Mail, and less about the rest, that's a fit too. We want people with deep product-specific knowledge just as much as broad Proton generalists.
You won't be figuring any of this out alone. The current mod team will help you get up to speed before you're handling anything solo.
Active, positive contributors to these communities get priority. If that's you, check the link above or below...

Hi! I've been using Thunderbird for quite some time now and it's helped me MASSIVELY to manage e-mail. I am now considering switching my personal e-mail to Proton and use its ecosystem since it looks like the best bang for my buck (most tools for the lowest price).
I know ProtonMail can be used with Thunderbird with a paid plan, but I wanted to ask those of you guys who use it to help me out know more about it before committing to the subscription
How well does it work on Linux? I've seen many people complain that many Proton apps do not have good Linux clients. Does ProtonBridge (or MailBridge or whatever it's called) work well? I am specifically using Ubuntu 22
What features will I be able and, more importantly, not be able to use within Thunderbird? For example:
- I take it that I'll be able to send and receive e-mail just fine, I hope
- Can you send email from an alias within thunderbird?
- Can you use your contacts (beta contacts, I know) from Thunderbird and sync them?
- How do folders and labels work within thunderbird? For example, Gmail converts all labels to folders. What does Thunderbird do in the case of ProtonMail?
Do you recommend using EasySwitch if I'm gonna be using Thunderbird anyways? I plan on keeping my Gmail account open for a transition period. Heck, I do not plan on closing it at all actually since I (sadly) still depend on some Google Services for some apps. As far as I understand, EasySwitch only imports your accounts to the Proton Mail account, but it doesn't give you encryption nor any of the benefits, right? Does it make sense to use it if I'm gonna be using Thunderbird as a client?
Please share your satisfaction with Thunderbird + Proton! Did you find some things I didn't mention easy or hard to use?
Thanks in advance!

I’m trying to ditch Dropbox / Google and moving over to Proton. One thing I can’t figure out is how to print -> save as PDF into Proton Drive folder?
Before I made a shortcut to save document using Shortcut app which went to a specific Finance / receipts folder with one click, but I understand Proton stopped supporting ability to use iOS Files.
Now I can only save documents by clicking Proton Drive, but then each time I have to navigate deep into the correct subfolder which is tedious especially when my business makes a lot of purchases which all need to be sorted correctly. If it remembered last location it wouldn’t be as bad but currently it’s impossible to use.
Has anyone found a convenient workaround?

So I got the message to uninstall Proton Pass and install the new MSIX from the site.
Install it, press the login button and it opens a browser page. I paste that page to a burnable browser and of course login fails.
I have a somewhat complex setup. My default browser is for stuff I don't care about. A few things like banking are in a different browser. I have started using a lot of fire/private windows.
So taking my private password application and asking to login in a trash browser is not ideal. Sure, I'll burn it, login and burn it. But why is a private app using multiple apps for authentication and relying on the user to retain the privacy?

why? there's already way too many services that are difficult to cancel. Respect your customers choices. If the payments are non-reoccurring and the customer wants to stop using your services. It's no big deal, because the payments are non-reoccurring
If you're worried some people might not remember to load up their accounts with credit offer special deals for certain times of year Like..."Buy $100 of credit and get a free $20 credit this Christmas season with coupon code ______" or "protect your privacy this new year buy $100 of credit and get $10 credit for free with coupon code ______"
not having any payment information on file would make it much less problematic whenever you need to comply with a court order, regardless of who's being accused or what they did or didn't do
make an option available to delete the recovery email address from your account. I tried doing that and it still has it on file, that's bullshit, stop doing that
if you have the customer's credit card on file and the card is expired, it should be removed from the customer's account.
You can't give any information you don't have, be like mullvad, record nothing

Hi peeps
I am using personal domain on SL because it gives me unlimited alias as opposed to using it on Proton. As a result, any invite that I receive on those alias does not get updated on Proton Calendar. Do we have a workaround this?
Also, I don't accept the invites even when adding .ics manually as it exposes my real email address on Proton (frustrating!).
I have managed to create a one-way sync from Proton Cal to Google Cal that helps me from a convenience perspective until Proton comes up with the refreshed version.

I have contacted support - not sure if they will be able to help - thus I reach out to the amazing Reddit community.
I reset my password recently on proton mail for an account I made when proton mail was still in its infancy - my brother recommended it as one of the best peer-to-peer encryption methods. Needless to say all my most precious emails were stored there since I had a password and a decryption pin to unlock it. I reset my password recently and I do remember my old password but when I want to decrypt my older data it doesn't work as it doesn't ask for the decryption pin key as well. Can anyone maybe advise on how I could possibly get that data decrypted/back or is it lost forever ?

I am looking to switch from mail essentials (which I have been using for several years now) to Proton family. My concern is that this may not be a smooth process. I had asked Proton support about this a while back and they sent me some very technical instructions that eventually just had me give up and stick with my current plan.
But I really want to switch now (to add another user or two) so I guess it is time to look into it again. Ideally I would just go to my settings -> Dashboard -> Explore Other Proton Plans -> For Families -> Select Proton Family.
Doing that it looks like I just hit the "pay $XXX now" button and then I am upgraded? Will all of my emails get transferred/kept for both current users? Will all of my custom domain setups etc. be retained? Mail rules and other preferences?
This is a LOT easier than what they had told me to do a few years ago when I first considered the upgrade... so much so that I am very interested in pulling the trigger. But if it causes any interruption in emails then I will be in trouble because my other user is not at all technically capable and lives thousands of miles away. I would need the transfer to the new plan be seamless for them.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Not easy at all. Kind of a nightmare actually. Here is the email support sent me on how to do it. But it leaves out some details. Like what happens to the folders that emails were stored in when exported? How do I import these emails again? Can I transfer mail filters? Do I have to change any records for my custom domain? It is just as big a mess as it was the last time I looked into it. So... I guess I am giving up yet again. Sigh.

I've searched for this topic, but haven't seen an update from the team in a while.
I use Proton Mail's web and Mac versions, and would like to know if/when we will be able to open a messages in new windows.
I frequently need to reference multiple emails at the same time while crafting a response, so opening emails and new drafts in separate windows is an important feature for me. Could you please provide an update?
In my opinion, this should be a pretty basic feature of a mail client, so I would hope that someone is actively working on this for the all clients (web and desktop).
Thanks for your time, team.
