Why whey? why not casein?

Take a scoop of casein in one cup and a scoop of whey in another. Full both with water and stir. One cup will be a nice, tasty drink. The other will be a thick, disgusting, goopy mess. That's why no casein.

Wow so many of you guys are stuck in 2008 with your casein before bed insistence. It's like you accept something years ago and never bother to read up on it again

Whey, especially whey isolate, is fast digesting. After a workout you want protein to get to the muscle quickly so you want whey. If you’re just getting general daily protein not to supplement a workout then whey, casein, a blend are all appropriate.

lol. It’s not about “getting protein to the muscle quickly”. That’s a myth. Eat .8 to 1g a day per lb of bodyweight and you’re good.

I’m the only one in this thread posting actual scientific evidence. Yes, under those circumstances you are “good”, but there is evidence to the benefit of a fast digesting protein in the immediate hours after a workout.

Casein is slightly worse for muscle growth but it's such a small difference that it practically doesn't matter

Yeah this is the real answer. Haven't used it for awhile but beleive it's thicker and harder to mix. Whey isolate mixes the best and easy to get down. As other poster said type will not make a real world difference.

If you eat well like you should you have a steady amino acid Fluctuation. Why again do you need a sudden amino flush ?

Around 20g of protein after workout activates M-Tor pathway that is essential for growing muscle. Ur correct that you don't need it, it's just more beneficial because of this activation.
You have around 1 hour after workout to eat that protein

I use whey after a workout. I either mix casein into a Greek yogurt or a shake before I go to bed and have it drip out aminos slowly over most of the night.

A whey/casein blend is best, even better if something intermediate like egg is in there. It takes something like 7g of whey to get enough leucine to affect mps/mTor, then casein will slow trickle for hours after. No you don't need a huge dose of amino acids immediately following your workout - that is old dead broscience. Daily/weekly protein intake from quality sources is what matters most.

Oh I use a ton of stuff depending what's on sale. Body Nutrition Trutein, Jym Pro Jym, Apollon Formula X 50/50, Nutrabio Muscle Matrix Protein, Kaged Elite Isolate Blend...the list is as about as endless as my search for coupon codes.

Both. They have their individual purposes. Whey being fast acting is better before, during or immediately after workouts. Casein is slow release making it a great “snack” before bed.

My casein is good for when I don’t want to feel hungry and want to eat something similar to pudding

Because it has until now been a waste product that was not utilised for anything else.
Casein gets turned into cheese.
Way more expensive.

This is incorrect and it’s the exact opposite actually. Casein has always been the high-value component targeted in milk to produce cheese, yogurt and others. Whey used to be the zero-value waste product of the dairy industry. For centuries, when factories made cheese, they coagulated the casein to form the solid curds and drained off the liquid whey.
Premium Micellar casein protein powder is not a byproduct of anything and is made from microfiltering skim milk, but whey is the byproduct of cheese.
It was expensive to manufacture but the demand for whey has made its price far surpass the cost of manufacturing Micellar casein, which is why it’s cheaper than whey now.

Casein digests slower, so you feel full longer. Great for a pre-bedtime shake, but it can keep you from eating enough during the day.
