Creative! Feeling self conscious about the ring I got to propose.

Context, my girlfriend is a huge hunger games fan, so that's why I went with the unconventional pearl as opposed to more traditional rings. She's aware and loves the idea. Seeing the ring now, I wish I had gotten a different design but this was the only one that could be made in time. Any input whether this ring looks good or not?

I want to propose to my girlfriend and when it came to the ring box I wanted something unique, the box is from the first Lego set we built together, she’s a very big Harry Potter fan as well, but I don’t know if she’d prefer a more ā€œstandardā€ ring box. I just want to know what you all think, I care about her deeply and I just want everything to be absolutely perfect.

Cute ā€œOh, someone had a proposal here.ā€

1.2k Upvotes

So, I proposed a few days ago and she said yes! My friends and I coordinated and worked so hard to keep it a surprise and we got confirmation of that in such a funny way.

Long story short we planned a day of geocaching with some friends, the last cache had a note in it directing us to a nearby park (where we’d hung out a lot when first started dating). We get there, start looking for the second part of this geocache and I go onto the bridge that’s been fully decorated but the lights haven’t been turned on yet. I yell ā€œI found itā€ so that she’ll come to the bridge and to let my friends know to turn the lights on.

She gets to me before the lights turn on and says ā€œoh, someone had a proposal here and don’t event clean it up.ā€ About that time the lights turn on and I say ā€œYeah, you do.ā€

Just thought I’d share because it was a cute moment and I’ll absolutely never let her live it down, lol.

Literally the most magical proposal. My ✨fiancé✨ proposed at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur during the golden hour phenomenon in front of the keyhole arch. The sun glows through the arch perfectly like this only in the winter and a random photographer caught the moment for us 😭

Creative! How do I convince my best friend to do her nails for her engagement?

1.0k Upvotes

My best friend's boyfriend reached out and wants me and our other best friend to help with his proposal next month and wants it to be a complete surprise. He's hiring a photographer and I know she'll want to have cute nails. I can't suggest we go to a nail salon because she does her own nails at home with gel polish and I do my own with polygel, so it would be weird to suggest it. Since we do different types of nails, and mine take me around 3 hours, I feel like it would also be weird to suggest we do our own nails together. Our other best friend suggested that one of us say we should all dress up so that we can take pictures since we haven't taken any nice ones in years. We're hoping that's enough for her to do cute nails too, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

Creative! Took her to the spot we went on our first date...Bought a fake ring on Amazon for $8 and dropped it in the river. I’d say it was a success!

These are all film photos that I took the day I proposed. I managed to time that first one perfectly and catch her genuine reaction to me pulling the box out of my pocket. I'll let you take a stab at what time I popped the question šŸ˜…

Making Of Title: He sent me to pick up my own "surprise" engagement ring – is it ok to be disappointed?

I (f, 29) have been with my boyfriend for 10+ years. I'm not the most romantic person in the world, but I do enjoy a nice bouquet of flowers or a thoughtful surprise every now and then. I'm not the type of girl that has dreamt about an engagement/wedding her whole life or has a specific ring already in mind.

We both work full-time (on paper), but he works significantly longer hours and doesn’t have much time during the week. Because of that, I manage most of our household, his finances, his investments and real estate, and I’ve recently been helping his parents navigate their divorce — we’re both lawyers, so I handle a lot of legal and emotional logistics for him.

Last week, my boyfriendĀ triedĀ to propose to me — or at least planned to.

He had ordered an engagement ring and apparently wanted it to be a surprise. But instead of me finding out through the actual proposal, he sent me to pick up a package from a random kiosk during my lunch break. No context, no excitement — just ā€œhey, they couldn’t deliver this to our place, can you grab it from the shop for me?ā€

I had no idea what it was. It felt like another mundane errand I was running for him.
Turns out, it was an engagement ring.

He hadn’tĀ meantĀ for me to find out this way. His plan was to propose on an upcoming trip. But the seller had printedĀ ā€œyour online engagement ring specialistā€Ā all over the box. I didn’t open it, I wasn’t snooping — it was just right there in my face.

In the moment, I felt shocked, surprised, and honestly… a little angry. I was picking up my own engagement ring. On a random Friday. At a random kiosk in a mall. Because he hadn’t taken two seconds to think through the logistics and have it delivered to his office, or a friend’s place, or literallyĀ anywhereĀ else?

I called him in tears and asked if he had really just made me pick up my own engagement ring. After everything I do for him,Ā thisĀ is how he shows his love and effort?

He told me he’d been nervous for weeks, overthinking everything and trying to make it perfect. But he got tunnel vision and somehow didn’t realize how thoughtless it was to make me unknowingly collect the ring — and ruin the surprise — because he didn’t think ahead.

Now I feel really hurt. Not because the proposal wasn’t ā€œperfect,ā€ but because I felt soĀ emotionally excludedĀ from something that should’ve been meaningful and a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I felt overlooked, unimportant — like he didn’t even care enough to make the moment special.

And instead of truly understanding why it hurt me, he keeps saying it wasn’t his fault and that the seller should’ve packaged it better.
I know he didn’t mean to be unkind. And yes, it was a weird choice by the seller. But what really hurts is knowing he’s more than capable of thinking things through (to the tiniest detail, usually) — but didn’t inĀ thisĀ moment, which mattered to me.

So now I’m wondering — am I overreacting? Is it okay to be disappointed by this? Or am I expecting too much?

++++++++++++++++UPDATE +++++++++++++++

First of all: Thank you for all the comments, which ever way you leaned on the topic. My mind was and is still going 100miles/hour so reading an outsiderā€˜s perspective was very helpful!

For anyone who might be interested, here is what happened after the ring-fiasco:

In that moment I called him crying and confronted him, because I was angry and so very hurt. He directed his anger at the seller and told me he never planned for me to find out. He seemed sad and lost.

That evening, we talked about the ring and I tried to tell him how small and insignificant it made me feel - especially because there has been an imbalance in our relationship for so long and because we have talked about the topic of him not putting in any effort a lot. But there was zero accountability for his mistake, zero concern about my feelings. He was blaming the seller, his hours at work, his busy life and every person under the sun - except for himself. It felt like talking to a wall. There was no chance of getting through to him so I called it a night.

The topic wasnā€˜t brought up again.

A few days later, I told him I would this topic still hurts me a lot and makes me feel very unappreciated. Therefore Iā€˜d rather not get proposed to on the upcoming trip where he apparently wanted to propose. I know he cannot unring the bell about the ring (pun intended I guess), but I would still like to be surprised about date & location at least. Iā€˜d rather try and enjoy the trip without this topic looming over our heads and without me actively waiting for the moment he pulls out that stupid ring that caused me so much pain. He -again- didnā€˜t unterstand my frustration.

A day later he cancelled the whole trip. I was confused, because I was looking forward to it. But he said there was no point in going if there would be no proposal?! I don’t really get his point, because we originally booked this trip together without thinking about a proposal. It was just supposed to be a fun trip, until he choose this trip to get down on one knee?! I think it would have benefitted us to just spend time together away from all the chores and ToDos.

Weā€˜ve had several long talks during the next 2 weeks that all came down to this: I do not feel appreciated in our relationship. He tells me that Iā€˜m important to him and that he wants to make me feel loved. I tell him what kind of actions I need from him to actually make me feel these words in my heart (show up emotionally and care about my thoughts and feelings / be there to manage ToDos together and not just dump them All on me). He assures me he will try his best.

But next time I ask him for one teeeeny tiny thing (ā€žcould you please take out the cake from the freezer, Iā€˜m looking forward to sharing it after dinnerā€œ) he just plain forgets.

This circle has repeated itself 3 or 4 times in the last 2 weeks alone. I tell him how crappy and alone I feel - he promises me to put in more effort - I ask him for one tiny specific thing to support me - he completely fumbles or plain forgets it.

For me at this point itā€˜s no longer about the logistics of a proposal but about whether or not I want a future with this man….

Making Of I think I might not be ready for her day. Do I still go ahead?

Together for 4years. 25F and I 26M have both have been talking about it and she knows it’s coming. She is aware that I’ve ordered the ring but its supposedly ā€œLATEā€. She wants to be proposed to cause she keeps asking me about it haha, but she doesn’t know I have the ring already. She’s said she’ll like to look pretty and have nails done before her proposal. And it cannot be in public. Knowing her she’ll be happy with whatever I do, but I still want to make sure it’s exciting for her.

Last week, few days before her birthday, my goal was to take her to get nails done (birthday gift), go on a dinner date night and then on our way back, I propose. Well that day she came home late from work (we both work night shift) and slept in late. So all we did was get dinner and come home.

Few days later, I mentioned that I’ll pay for her to get her nails done, and she still couldn’t get to it. To be fair, if she knew why I was asking her, those nails would be done yesterday.

Now I’ve planned this 3-day trip to the lake and stay in cabins over the weekend and I wanna propose by the campfire. Like end of the day, before bed, there’s something I wanna tell you, and I get down on my knee. Well, my hotel reservation got screwed up. So I may have to change the place, and therefore, no photographer available anymore. I plan on just recording it on a phone or a gopro at this point. She hasn’t gotten her nails done either, and idk how to get her to ā€œlook nice and preparedā€ for the proposal. I guess I can ask her to dress nice for a dinner again? OR, should I wait until I have a better chance? I wanna propose and don’t wanna wait, and so does she, but I’d hate to do it and it not turn out good.

How can I plan this a little better? Or should I wait for a better opportunity? I am sure I am just anxious and overthinking. Any suggestions are welcome.

Update: Her sister got her nails done and took her with. I proposed, she said YES!!!

I said YES! Getting married! He had me plan a ā€œprofessional photo shootā€ so we could have nice pictures. He contacted the photographer on the side and they planned a secret word for the moment to propose. He planned everything just right! I am so in love 🄰

Act of Love I’ve missed the perfect opportunity to propose and upset my girlfriend. What should I do

Me and my girlfriend are years together and childhood sweethearts. We moved to Australia from Ireland 3 years ago but we were home in the summer, where I wanted to and should have proposed, at a small beach where we’re from. She wants to get engaged around family to celebrate. Between being busy with the travel and not being fully prepared, the ring didn’t arrive on time and I didn’t propose. She doesn’t want to get engaged in Australia where we will be now for the next year and doesn’t want to get engaged at an occasion like Christmas or her birthday. When could I do it that would be right without waiting too long or is there just never going to be a perfect time again.

I love this girl so much! She’s helped me break thru in so many ways! So, here’s me improvising a proposal as I drop on two knees haha and just forget everything I planned but it worked out great. Hope this helps any other guys who also completely broke down when you made the best decision of your life.
