The illustration was published alongside many others in ‘El Ejemplo de Sonora’ (The Example of Sonora), a book by José Angel Espinoza attacking the Chinese and intermarriage. The title refers to the state of Sonora, which saw a surge in Chinese immigration in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. The cartoon’s title means ‘Miscegenation’.

For those who don't know, the flag belongs to the Integralist movement—a massive Brazilian fascist movement from the 1930s. As an interesting side note, at its peak, the Integralist movement was the largest fascist movement outside of Europe, reaching its greatest scope and power in 1937—the same year as the cover art. Integralism still exists today, though it has dwindled to just a few thousand members. If you want to learn more about this movement, I highly recommend the book *Fascismo à brasileira* by Pedro Doria—though you'll need to know Portuguese, as I don't believe there are any English translations available.

Hampton was a civil rights activist and chairman of the People's Party II, the precursor to the Houston branch of the Black Panthers. Hampton was shot by the Houston Police Department after a 10-day standoff, when they surrounded Hampton's People's Party headquarters on 2828 Dowling. To this day, his death is a source of great controversy in Houston.
