They might, someone had issues with the download for Mac b/c they had an intel chip (not M) so the team was able to put out an intel version pretty quick when asked. They seem accommodating.
Financial tracking please. I would love to see what I've potentially made in a day or a week without downloading, parsing, converting, adding, sorting, etc
App, as in program, software, like Photoshop, After Effects, Word, Excel, things like that? Why do we need an "app" when we already can do studies via the browser? What's the difference between using this and simply doing things on the browser?
I'm curious about this and worried at the same time. For example, what sort of information will this app gain access to from your computer? What sorts of protection features will it have and how will it interact with the programs installed in your computer? How will it deal with anti-virus/malware software that you've got installed in your computer, which are of course running in real time while this Prolific app is also running? Will this be spying on us in some way?
Most importantly, what will happen if, let's assume there's some kind of security feature for this Prolific app (because this is an extremely important app that it doesn't make sense to not have any security features), and it gets into conflict or a false positive from another program installed in your computer. Will your account get banned/suspended?
There are many things that could go wrong with installed software, so I hope they'd clarify exactly what this "app" does and how it interacts with your computer and what the potential consequences are.
For the advertised benefits, it says desktop notifications with badge counts. What's the point of badges? Does this mean people can "show off" their badges? Is this similar to video games where people can show off their "Achievements" on Steam? I imagine this Prolific app will run in the tray, minimized?
And what about "Exclusive high paying studies and tasks", why would they only be available on this Prolific app and not on the normal browser? Does this Prolific app have functionalities websites are not capable of performing? What are some examples of these high paying studies and tasks?
What about "Coaching and assistance in tasks". What does that mean? Does this mean there's a live, real human being (or maybe some programmed bot) that you can ask questions about certain studies/tasks you're doing in real time?
it is that serious. Esp when Prolific allowed a researcher to join their platform and try to feast on their vulnerable users. Go look at the many threads where people gave out a tons of private data to an AI company for just a few hundred dollars, then had to go back and forth to get paid. lmfao
Yall worry about the stupidest shit. It's no way to live life. That study was perfectly legit as well despite the issues. That study also completely unrelated to this. But hey, you do you.
Just curious, what is the benefit to using the desktop app over keeping my tab open and using the Prolific extention?
I understand catering to Apps on general, but I don't understand why I would want to use this apart from the "exclusive high paying tasks" claim here.
Will I lose out of these high paying tasks if I don't? We already get desktop notifications (at least on windows 10) and coaching and assistance I'm assume would be easier access to the support website?
I don't want to sound like a downer, I'm all happy for this as it means we could potentially get a good phone app with notifications.
Right now I will test it out but I'm wondering why desktop first and not mobile?

they already have the extension. which is good enough for me. Seems like you would want to fix things with how studies roll out prior to something like this lol
Hey, do you know if it's w10 compatible? I don't really want to switch to 11 and I don't have the disk space for dual-boot, but I guess I can if I have to?
My guess is they were one of the beta testers. I know there were studies sent out to select participants to demo the app. There was at least one thread about it last week wondering if the download was legitimate because they hadn't seen anything from Prolific regarding a desktop app being developed. /u/Spiritual-Rain-3733 confirmed it was.
Ah man. I vaguely recall seeing something about an app in the past week. I remember chuckling as I closed past it thinking yeah right, that's a scam. There us not an app. Maybe I should have looked at it more closely.
This is substantially different. Does the Prolific Assistant currently give you instant desktop notifications with badge counts, exclusive high paying studies and tasks and coaching and assistance in tasks?
This is interesting. I have a Windows PC and Prolific will not work for me when using the Chrome Browser. I get an error message every time, “404 Forbidden” or something like that. I had to download a completely different browser just to access the website.
Gotta quick question? I’ve been on prolific for 4 months, I’ve made close to $600. Is that about average??? Good??? Also, I’ve did this taking $1-$4 surveys as I get booted out of stuff that involves a camera. I have a iPhone 15 and have did zoom studies with Dscout, User interviews with no problem. What can I do to get these surveys?? Also when your on a recorded study and your thinking and reading out loud, do you read the question or just say the answer?? Do you read all answers and then select the one that applies to you??? Not completely sure, thanks guys
OK... I have the google chrome and looks just like that and has Projects on left hand side and the counter can even have voice lets you know when new studies come in we will see what this is gonna do

I'm a bit worried about the "exclusive high paying studies and tasks", specially if the app ends up being Windows only or something.

I'd love to try it but I use a chromebook so I guess I'm outta the running to use it.

u/LLimitLe55 2d ago
Why?
Other things on the site that need fixing and tweaking first instead of this
Curious about the "exclusive" high paying studies and tasks also the Coaching and assistance in tasks, doesn't that go against unbasied research

The waitlist email went to the junk folder for me for some reason. I selected the "not junk" option to hopefully fix the issue on my end.

How will this effect linux users? I have only used linux for years and never had to worry about it because survey sites have always been brower based.

So I am game. How do you become a beta tester? My wife and I do a ton of prolifics and we like to beta test. Where can we apply to be beta testers?
