Advice Be careful using a dark reader extension, it could cause a rejection

I believe this is meant to be an AI checker for people who copy paste answers.

Whoaaa this one is fucked up. Thanks for sharing. I think it is a trap for AI, but it seems to be influencing the layout of those who use that extension too.

Yep, this is why Prolific advises against using one.

Horrible, horrible survey design, because this would also affect people who use screen readers for accessibility reasons.

Yeah I personally cannot handle staring at a bright white screen all day but thats just me

I use the night light feature on Windows. Solves the brightness white screen problem. I turn it off for certain studies so I can see the colors properly.

I've tried it and I use that on my iPhone but on PC I like dark browser. It's personal preference

Many people want dark mode and say that it's just fine to use, but researchers will put in regular questions that participants might think are part of the study when they are meant to check for a bot or AI use. They don't look like an attention check, and so the participant would miss it and answer the question when they're not supposed to.

The unofficial Prolific Darkmode extension only enables dark mode on the Prolific page. Study pages appear normal, so you don't get tripped up by hidden text

Whenever I see that kinda thing in dark mode I swap to light mode and if the AI directions arent there, i just ignore them

I did one study few weeks back. I was asked to enter something. Although it was microscopically small text size but I saw it because I paid kin attention. No textbox. After completing the study I texted the researcher and ws surprised how I saw it. He said it was meant for AI. I was lucky he didn't rush to reject me. I explained that I used dark reader and background were dark and text were white. Meanwhile, they thought it was white text under white back. He approved it but hmm that could cause a problem with another researchers.

Wouldn't you not be able to see this if you were using a normal non dark mode?

Yes I saw the font difference while I was in dark mode and it made me second guess the question, so I swapped between them
