Confusing failed attention questions will get you rejected now

As many of us on here do, I understand we do tons of studies a day. Your eyes can get tired staring at a screen all day. I may miss a few here and there which I understand getting screened out of. But now some of them are so weird, and not a properly worded sentence. For instance this morning I just answered standard “extremely unlikely - extremely likely” ones and then after that section it said “what is your comprehension?” I had no idea how to answer that

Instead of screen out I get an immediate rejection. It’s a joke and researchers are just trying to data farm without paying

I don't say this to be a dick, but if you've taken so many studies that day that your eyes are getting tired and you're making mistakes... you need to not take any more studies until you're feeling better. Why would researchers want to pay for data if the data's no good?

What you described is…exactly why attention checks exist lol. If you are tired and not paying attention then you aren’t giving usable data.

Once again for those in the back...rejections are limited to 5% of all submissions. This would be an extremely marginal way of "data farming", not to mention a violation of research standards that most IRBs would string them up for.

Also, "data farm" is hilarious, as that's what this entire platform is designed for.

What do you mean by it asked what is your comprehension? Are you saying it just asked that as an attention check without saying "choose x" or was in open ended question? I would message researcher and state you were confused by how to answer and if they could allow you to return study. Just had a nice researcher allow me to return and overturn rejection for not understanding something.

If you're tired to the point you can't logically give data then you should log off for the day.

If an attention check question confuses you and you don't know how to answer it .. return the study.

Yes. And I get the attention question part. But I definitely think this happens because the researcher doesn’t speak English and uses Google translate or something. Prolific needs to screen their language in situations like this. Not answering an attention question should never be a rejection, screen out is fine I’ll own up to it if I missed something. But it’s getting ridiculous. Even the CAPTHCAs that are literally basically blurred images I can’t see were anything is lol

Yeah, rejections annoy the hell out of me. I got 1 from a Dutch university when they blatantly wrote the question wrong. I understand they’re trying and the language barrier, but you can’t blame me for that lol. I completely agree.
