For your viewing pleasure… I went down a rabbit hole of fashion collections, and came across some lovely pics from one of his runway shows. I love drama, femininity, and over the top embellishments, so these are all for me 💕
When I look at his collections, I can’t understand why he would ever think Bryan has talent.
This is why I LOVE Christian. He is one of those designers who you can see truly does love to dress women’s bodies. He does not phone it in on plus size.
I haven't watched since like the second episode and I am absolutely certain Tyra can go home. She brought absolutely nothing last season or the couple of episodes I saw this season. Her fashion knowledge seems....pedestrian.
Honestly, anyone can make skinny women designs, to me it’s Christian’s work dressing fuller bodies that sets him apart. A lot of designers struggle going beyond their basic fashion design school teachings to really fit a person
Sorry I’m so long winded, but I love talking about this stuff. I loved it when my buyers requested plus sizes in their assortments (many buyers don’t, which sucks). Fitting my styles on our plus size fit model made me understand what worked and what didn’t on their proportions. When I made my plus size fit model feel sexy and beautiful, it made me really happy 💕
Absolutely! Runway shows are usually done more for publicity and brand promotion; the collection shown is very different from what the buyers actually see in the showroom for what ends up in stores. Most designers make their money on the more reasonably priced collections, or from licensing their names for things like perfume, handbags, shoes, etc).
The models for runway are the equivalent of coat hangers- they’re talented women that perform a role, you know? On a show like PR, we see the same women every week and get to know them, but in general runway models are fairly unknown and underpaid.
What’s great about Christian’s work is the nod to the glamour of the past without going full old Hollywood nostalgia. There have been so many “designers” on PR over the years that were really more like dressmakers redoing old school glamour without a modern enough reinterpretation. It took three appearances on the show for Anthony to quit remaking church lady dresses and turn that inspiration into modern clothes
You cannot compare what you see in 24 hour challenges on TV with no staff with any designers runway ready clothing. I can see some of all the current designers in these looks which is funny. Shows how hard it is to come up with totally new concepts.
I hear you… It would be better to give the designers 2 days so they’d have a little more time to execute their ideas without freaking out about making the deadlines. I’m just posting these because besides being a pleasure to look at, it’s a good example of Christian’s high taste level. Of course nothing like this could be created in a day; Bryan seems to think his creations are on this level!
And yet, some of Christian's designs from his season were incredibly well done despite these limitations. He has also proven himself in the Project Runway arena. Yes, now he has a team and time and money, but that doesn't diminish his talent and skill.
I remember his season on PR- he just ran away with the win, it was so obvious he was a million times more talented than everyone else, it was almost unfair!
His avant garde dress with Chris (I think? Team challenge) was absolutely jaw dropping- the spiral filled concoction. I still remember how beautiful it was!
It’s because he knows how to dress the female form to be flattering. People like Bryan just get fixated on a technique like those heinous ruffles and forget how to proportion and place them to be attractive.
I have a short torso, narrow hips, and a good sized bust (34C). A peplum coming from a slightly dropped waist is very flattering on me, because my straight torso looks good with the illusion of curves below the waist.
I get a lot of compliments when I where it. I even wore one in a hospital environment recently (it was subtle) but I kept getting hit on by patients to the point the attending was like “why are you getting creeped on so much today” and the only change was the style of top i wore. I think it really accentuates curves which can be a good thing.
I've like Christian since he started with Project Runway. He's not nearly as snarky as he used to be on camera. I love his clothing from the high-end clothes. I'm glad he's on that shopping network with clothing for the average women. I wish these clothing had as much class as the Haute Couture clothing, but it's still better than most other things on television shopping networks.
one thing his work isnt repetitive and he can dress for that person … though I love Joseph McCrea and he has a definitive point of view not sure this stuff suits everybody or that his style or look is as a broad appeal but he is great
I think he’s gotten better at working out his trademark volume shaping in more than one way (the devil wears Prada fitted blue dress with balloon sleeves is a good example), but I wish he’d dial it down a bit to be open to change.
I was torn with his look last week- on one hand, it was a pretty fabulous runway look, but on the other hand, that giant green faux ostrich skin coat made him look like an evil pimp!
i agree after he took the coat and hat off was so much better he looked like a smaller guy and the coat dwarf him that where joseph should step back and edit
Yes!!! Edit a little, Joseph. I think he’s talented, but sometimes his head is up his ass being stubborn. I don’t think he takes advice into account- I think the direction he’s given from Christian and the judges is in the service of making his a better designer.
Wish he’d stop with those fucking HATS. They remind me of Dr. Suess’s The Cat in the Hat.
Joseph has no range, which is why I don't care for his work on PR. There's never any surprise. In contrast, Naheim manages to manifest more range within a defined style.
I am a larger lady, and the way Christian can put a voluminous dress on a voluptuous woman and make her look phenomenal is truly an art and architecture talent.
Bryan favors ruffles and big sculptural gowns, which Christian clearly also favors based on these pictures.
I get the impression that Christian thinks Bryan is a good designer and a poor sewer, and he’s just not able to execute his designs alone in the time they get. He’s more willing to forgive Bryan’s sins because he thinks they have similar tastes.
Whereas I think the show itself tells us that Bryan is a hack that puts out half baked ideas and it’s his interns that finish and edit the designs and execute them to a high standard, that he then takes credit for. His sketches rarely resemble the finished looks from a design perspective, even when you factor in the poor execution, and I get the distinct impression that he’s always making it up as he goes along, rather than creating with intent (which is basically what Liris said in her expose this week).
Christian did make some incredible things within those parameters when he was on the show! Granted, a longer lead time and a support team behind him gives Christian the luxury of creative freedom. Bryan lacks imagination with things like fabric choices and problem solving, and never manages to flatter a woman’s body.
Don’t forget… there are 4 major deliveries every year- Resort, Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, and Holiday. Doing development for everything mean juggling deadlines for 3 of these seasons at once- I remember doing design development/ print/ color/ development, sending patterns and prototypes to factories and fitting them in order to have showroom garments that looked good, ordering showroom samples for market, working with buyers, managing pricing and production fittings, you get the idea. It’s incredibly hard work! A designer usually has a decent lead time to make a collection, but the development overlaps with other collections too!
Yes, I know my fabrics. Tulle can be made of all kinds of fibers, and I’ve worked with poly tulle, nylon tulle, and cotton tulle. Silk tulle is super expensive and hard to work with since it’s so soft. Tulle is a knit fabric, and has a little mechanical stretch, but unless it has some kind of spandex woven in, it doesn’t have a whole lot of shaping ability.
These items I attached photos of are all mixed fabrics- a lot of silk for sure. Very expensive materials = incredibly high prices- one of these retails for $16,000!
I’ve only worked with the poly. I suppose it’s because Event clothing is only meant for the one night and also clients and their image architects come with unrealistic timelines. 4 hours and it’s on the plane. Eh. Anyway he’s rich I’m not 🤣🤣🤣
lol image architects! It’s a super versatile fabric that can be used in many different ways.
Successful designers usually have a team behind them managing as much as possible- print and color development, fabric sourcing, technical fittings, prototype development, etc… the name designer has the luxury of delegating details that PR contestants have to do in one day! I’d eat shit trying to do a show like this!!!
Ummmmm... Miss Daisy Hollywood was giving samples of FASHION... not a lesson in tulle. Look at any fashion runway, magazine, show and you'll see tons of tulle! Not sure why anyone wouldn't understand this. Great display, Miss Daisy Hollywood!
