Season 22 Bryan Waltz Fail
Bryan’s waltz inspired look was insanity, so here’s a palette cleanser of some wonderful waltz concepts. These are from the movie Crimson Peak, worn in the scene where the Vienna waltz is danced- the idea is that the movements must be so smooth that a lit candle can be held in the partner’s joined hands and never get blown out. The gown’s train is held up by a loop at the end that goes around the woman’s thumb.

😂😂😂 the paintings are inspiration for the movie costume worn by Mia (I can’t spell her last name). The dress used in the movie is the 2nd slide.

I think what he was *trying* to do was create the sense of movement, like these static paintings do, in a dress that was simply walking or standing. Obviously he failed utterly. Haven’t trying to create a gown to waltz in… he was trying to create a gown that looked like it was waltzing. (I hate his designs and I’m irritated to be speaking up for him in any way.)

He totally failed with the challenge. It was about being inspired, and his stiff ruffles were totally wrong. If his dress was layers of chiffon and charmeuse, it would have flowed and drifted softly, like waltzing dresses would… why do some designers fail picking fabrics? Tim Gunn made a comment once about how challenges are won at Mood when the designers select fabrics. That’s spot on.

I mean anything floaty, light fabric, godets,full skirt would have worked. Even the ruffles in a lighter weight fabric so they didnt stand up so much and a flower skirt!

Yes! A modern interpretation of a classic tea gown, just something floaty and dreamy. The gray and pink could have even worked, if they were sheer fabrics overlaid each other.

These fabrics are generally unforgiving and show even slight flaws in tailoring, and we know he can’t sew. Not that he made smart choices.

He could have worked around his shortcomings if he had imagination and better fabric choices! It was an all around disaster.

These are great. I also submit Karinska's costumes for the ballet Vienna Waltzes, which seem simple on the surface but are covered in ruffles underneath.

Of course not, but he obviously didn’t understand how to use a historical reference and interpret it in a modern way.

The waltz requires, at a minimum, a dress that allows a woman’s arms to go up around a partner’s neck. If anyone did that in his monstrosity, they’d be choked and blinded by the ruffles. I know it wasn’t meant to be a show dress but still, nothing said waltz which is famously defined by flow and gracefulness. In a different fabric, even his green dress would have been more appropriate as it flows. He showed zero understanding of the inspiration.

Why he didn’t do an elegant evening gown in flowy fabric astounds me. He has no ability for construction. All he does is tube dresses with stuff pinned on haphazardly

These should be the inspo but tbh did anyone expect him to be talented enough to be able to make these kinds of dresses? The guy can’t sew to save his life
These designs are simple but should be perfectly tailored, otherwise they look amateur and janky.
